how do you transfer MXF files from DVD to FCP HD?

I recently shot my spec commercials on the HVX and my DP transferred all the footage from P2 cards to DVD.

Now, my version of final cut pro HD doesn't give me the option of importing from Panasonic P2.

Does anybody know if there's a way to do this, without having to buy the latest FCP HD? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

you can always go to a post house if you aren't equiped for the workflow.
Or have someone transcode the footage to what ever you can use in FCP 4.5

Many thanks to both of you for the advice. Do you know of any utility that is downloadable online that will convert from MXF to Quicktime without resulting in a loss of quality?

FCP 4.5 was designed to work with DVCPRO HD...but from the Varicam. The newer DVCPRO HD components are what David is referring to...the ones that allow you to edit the imported P2 footage. That is why you'll need to upgrade.

To work with the latest technology you need the latest technology.

NEW PROBLEM IMPORTING FROM P2 to FCP HD 5.0

NEW PROBLEM IMPORTING FROM P2 to FCP HD 5.0

Thanks, Shane and David. That makes perfect sense. New problem:

I installed Final Cut HD 5.0 on my computer and it won't allow me to import the footage from my DVD's.

It gives me the option to Import Panasonic P2, and I can even select the clips from my DVD, but when I try to "Import" or "Import All" I get a message saying:

"One or more clips failed to import; probable incomplete or corrupt clips."

Do I need a version higher than 5.0 to support the MXF files properly, or do I have an encoding problem with the discs?

That could also be a result of renaming things or not copying ALL the files and folders from the P2 cards.
