Duel-Systems Adapter has been officially released

I must have missed something. Why do you need the AJ-PCD20 driver . Is it written anywhere that this needs to be downloaded.

Well my adapter is sitting on my desk and I will wait for Duel to update their driver to 10.4.9.

I hope panasonic does some house cleaning and makes the driver site easier to understand and use. I still can't update the firmware of my 4gig card because I'm on a mac. This is ridiculous . I also use safari and it is glitchly with that japan site. It almost seems like an afterthought. Come on Duel systems and Panasonic get it together.

So far as I've seen is install the Intel drivers via the link provided.

Install the 10.4.9 drivers provided by Cynic.

Also install the AJ-PCD20 driver as well in the download folder per above.

Why not give it a try.

I have not yet transferred a full 8-gig card so don't want to try any benchmarking until I actually do a full transfer.

This is a personal thing. I'm not saying anything bad will happen but downloading drivers not officialy released and dowloading drivers for a device like the PCD20 that has nothing to do with the adapter with no explanation from either Duel systems or panasonic makes me wary. I mean did Cynic get the OK from duel sytems on this. If he did then we're beta testing. If he didn't then we're still beta testing. The integrity of the footage is paramount and jerri rigging the system is not the way i operate with these supposedly non beta devices especially when i keep reading the words " P2 gltch" in posts from time to time. (I have had no glitches in all my mac dowloading. )I'd rather put the heat on companies like Panasonic who have had this camera out for a whlle now and Duel systems who prematurely released this device to get their act together.

Guys, I feel so stupid to ask this but what is the purpose of this adapter? I have a laptop with PCMCIA-slot...so, is there any use for this adapter? What is it for?

For laptops with only a ExpressCard/34 slot, that adapter creates a PC Card II slot.

If you already have the PCMCIA/PC Card slot, then you good to go

Well, again, I'm not going near this thing, because if support for 10.4.9 is any indication of the soon-to-be-released 10.4.10, there's no way I'd put up with being at the mercy of dual to make sure everything is hunkydory.

I got this from Duel Systems the other day:

"We are very close to launching the BETA version of the Mac 10.4.9"

Not a shipping driver, but its progress... except we don't have it yet ;-)

I've got a powerbook g4...it's a 1.25 got 512ram. I'm going to be trekking around Europe with my HVX and "some" laptop to use as my store device. Debating
a) upgrading this to 2gs and going with it.
b) getting a newer powerbook system with a higher processing speed
c) getting a macbook pro + this duel system adapter.

Can anyone give me some indication of what my limitations might be in using my older system (with the 2 gs ram).. Given the problems that are posted regarding the duel maybe it would be best to stick with the pcmcia slot ? But concerned that that might slow me down in other ways such as dumping speed?

I STILL use my PB G4 17" and a bus powered FW drive for p2 offload. It is bullet proof.

I'd go with that.

This adapter isn't ready for prime time.

Thanks Matt- what's your processing speed, do you think I should upgrade my powerbook for a faster processing speed - will it make much of a difference, in your opinion? What bus powered FW drive do you use?

Thanks Again - Alex

You can't upgrade the processor of a PB. RAM and hard drive are the only upgrades available.

all make good FW bus powered drives

Hi David,

Sorry, i wasn't clear. I know you can only upgrade ram and hard drive. What I meant was using my powerbook that's 1.25 ghz, what would I expect in the transfer rate of footage in minutes..(I am hoping to be using a 16gig P2 at that point as well). As compared with purchasing a PB with a higher built-in processor (1.67) and a better performing bus. You see- I will be in the field with my laptop, well, on my lap, transfering the footage and wondering if it's worth purchasing a new PB altogether (that's what I meant by upgrade).... Any ideas?

Thanks -A
