Great pics you've shared here & on the following pages, guys. Thanks! I love how you group them together like that as well ... super slick. Now, here's MY question ... am I the only one that notices the ghost effect in the top middle picture? Maybe this has already been addressed on the following pages ... if so, sorry ... but was wondering if that was on purpose, etc?

Yep that was totally an accident and we don't have any idea how it happened. My dad was doing the photography so unless he did it on purpose, I can't say how it happened. I will ask him, but I just thought that it was so cool and a little creepy that I had to include it.

YeahI'll bring the lights and stuff, actually I think it got loaded in Matts van. But I'll bring what I have! The only think I could think of is paige is actually a ghost. Oh wait, it could also be a really slow shutter speed that somehow didn't blur. I can't wait to get back on set! I'm excited guys! It makes me want to quit my job and jump into this full time. Oh wait, I might just have that opportunity thanks to you guys!

I think you figured it out! I bet she was there and then moved and the shutter speed was slow enough it caught her...but why no blur....hmmmmm:huh:

Hey all,
I was digging through a bunch of our footage for BTS and I grabbed some more pics. There are some that show prop-making and distressing and some of the Saturday shoot. One of the pics in this first set is of some of the excellent food that my wife put together. We had Lasagna, Pasta and Sauce, Brownies for dessert and all sorts of snack foods. This is why I look that way I do... well that and the fact that I rarely leave my computer. Man I need to get back on my bike!

Hope you enjoy!

Is it only me or does Matt (in his yellow slickers) look like the guy on the front of the 'Gorton's Fish' box? Everytime I looked at him I had a strange craving for breaded shrimp and fish sticks.

Yeah, that ghost effect certainly was cool ... even more so considering that it was digital & not film ... never seen anything like that without some kind of post manipulation. (insert Twilight Zone melody).

Definitely strange! ...oh, and about the fish guy....I resemble that remark!

First stage in First VFX SHOT

First stage in First VFX SHOT

As some of you may have heard, we will be doing a few VFX shots. This pic is a sample of the beginning stages of one of those shots. Some of you may know what this is... for those of you that don't the 10 images below are used to build a "High Dynamic Range Image" or you may have heard it called and HDR Map or HDR Image. I will leave the rest up to your imagination, but when all is said and done, this will be a very powerful tool and it will help me really add some reality to the VFX in this particular scene.

Enjoy!

Well, I don't have very little knowledge when it comes to VFX and even less ability  ... but that said, this looks really cool and is quite intriguing. I'm curious to see how it's going to be utilized (I hope you will do some BTS on this aspect once the contest is done, as it would fascinating to learn moreabout what this is and how it is used).

We plan on doing some tutorials. Everything from 3D, keying, tracking and simple to high-end compositing. It should be pretty fun. We are doing a lot of BTS footage so we will be able to share making of vids as well as some written instructions. If I am not to tired, I may include some sample files for people to play with. I love this stuff!

I just saw the banners...this looks great...what a super look that girl has!!!! Best of luck.

Thanks! Our final shooting days are Friday and all day Saturday and we will have all of the principle photography done, then we move into post. We currently have about 3 1/2 minutes of footage edited in a rough cut. Once we have all of the footage we will finish the rough and then get copies to the composer and our sound guy to start blocking out their parts. Next week we do ADR and then I really attack the post-production. That's where the real fun begins.

Looks like you all are having fun with this. That's what it's all about, though, right? I look forward to your BTS footage and VFX tutorials/commentary. I always like seeing real world examples of how things are done. The bouncing ball et al just doesn't cut it for me. Have fun at your final shoot. :)

thanks Amy... Yep we are having a blast!

Hope you footage is coming along. I think I mentioned last week how, I know what a trial it is filming kids, especially your own. Good luck!

I've been subjecting the kids to my short films for a few years now, so we're all used to the routine. Also, I've gotten good at writing to their strenghths, so it keeps them from being too frustrated. This script is action heavy, so I can verbally coach them through a shot without stepping on their dialogue. Thanks for the encouragement. Our first regular shoot is this weekend, so hopefully I'll have more to report next week. :)
