P2 8Gig slashed price in Europe starting 2007

Is this applicable to the UK?

Can only see small UK discounts.... whats the nearest French dealer to Paris doing this price?
Cheers

Indy....

I talked to Panasonic Germany yesterday. They were very surprised but confirmed the price. All dealers are being informed this week. Somebody must have spoken a little early to the french dealer. Same prices should come up this week in UK as well.

Have a look at the link some posts above.
Just called them now, the 550€ (out of VAT) is the price on the French mrket as of today.
This is not a promo.
Email them, I think you can get them shipped to you.

That sounds like very good news...!

So did you ask them if 550 Euro (without VAT) will be the official price in germany for a 8 GB card..?
And they confirmed..?
That would be great!
Let me know jwfilm!

Germanboy,

logically, as Pana Europe caters directly all european dealers, it would be expectable that you got the same pricing in the following weeks, but, at least,
you now have the opportunity to buy at this price thru this (online) shop.

16 Gig P2 announced in Autralia in 3 weeks.

We should not be far from the "turning point" in Europe, after the price drop.

Without a link to these announcements, they don't have much value

Bad grammar/spelling-check! No feedback as a seller--check! Photos straight from Panny web site--check! No bids--check! Probably a jacked eBay account.

Write to seller and see if he/she responds with any video knowledge. The one eBay transaction that seller has is for a camera crane. I am suspicious when I see prior sales and purchases of items that are absurd, or under $1.00, etc. All of us started on eBay with 0 feedback and built up. So, I would not be totally suspicious of this one. But I would still try to make contact with the seller. I'm not totally convinced this is a scam.

Yes, 550 € is the confirmed price. They said all dealers will be informed this week (which means by tomorrow).

The 550 € (Out of VAT) price seems now realistic at least in 2 countries.

The P2 is central to Panasonic's strategy to growth the P2-able new products, as displayed in December at interBEE 2006 in Japan.

Australia, part of the Asia global region, whispering the upcoming availability is coherent.

The 16 Gig can't be too long to wait, by all these signs.

Now what would be the 8Gig US price?

- Based on the 550€ European price?
- Following the usual rule of thumb, that is 550 $

That the next good news, because for Europeans used to buy WW, this could mean an even lower price.

But the desired good news is the European/US 16 Gig P2 price.
for a double capacity, the medium price for constant Giga price is 1100 € (Out of VAT).

If the actual price is 10/15 % higher, you have more Gigas and more "cards" by the bucks, by buying 4 x 8 Gig, instead of 2 x 16 Gig.
After all, a workflow organized around 4 cards is not bad: 2 in the cam, 1 offloading & 1 blank.

Finally, (and happily)

1 - The €/$/Yen rates favoring the European buyer
{coupled with}
2 - the usual US domestic price bargain (when 1€=1$, Us products are often cheaper)
{coupled with}
3 - the global online buying power

is:

1- A barrier effect on maximizing brand new P2 price.
2- A nightmare for settling the right price (limiting crossborder sales)

It's amazing this topic has about 3 different threads going strong.... haha.

I just want to know where Japan is on this subject?! It seems Japan used to get all the new technology first and then it would be released in the US and Europe shortly after.

I find it odd that low P2 pricing and 16 gig cards aren't appearing in Japan first.... Did Panasonic break this trend? I am used to seeing all the cool cell phones, video games, and video products released overseas weeks or months before the US.

The old thread that was titled "I just saw a 16gig P2 card today" was about an asian card.... and this was way before we heard anything about a rebate or Europe!

Which leaves the question: "Where are they now?" What kind of rebate or discount is going on in Japan? I bet they are already using 32gig cards and we just don't know it. :)

Go to: http://www.system5.jp/

Or email to: info@system5.co.jp

This is a pro AV shop in Japan with all their articles online.
(You can navigate by looking at the URLs in english at the bottom of the browser)

Browse the Panasonic articles, if you find a 16 Gig, let me (us) know!

Australia is part of the global Asia region, "3 weeks...", they probably will appear there...
... At the worst price because of least favored Yen against US $ and more on €.

Higher P2 capacity is an "amazing" hot topic, isn't it? ;-)
