P2 8 Giga dropped to 550 € (out of VAT) starting 2nd January 2007 in France (and presumably in Europe).

2 Panny distris gave same announcement and same price.

Have been told that 16Giga avail 2nd quarter (They could be 1000€ or less (out of VAT).

It would be non sense that this would be limited to Europe (Online buying & grey market).

I bet 4G will be $300 or less unless they are discontinued wich it not in the best interest of Panny.... unless the manufacturing of the PCMCIA enclosure and internal components is super expensive.... more than anything it will make the HVX more affordable and even more importantly, it will get the word about P2 out there faster... sure everyone will be talking about the 16G and the more affordable 8G but when people listening about P2 technology for the first time complain about the entry price you can slap the 4G price on their negativity...

I cant wait to see the US prices and what happens to the 4G

When I called the first distri sale rep, he was astonished with the fact that the public price $550 dropped below their current purchase price (estimated 700/800 range), he put me on hold and then confirm this price.
A second distri confirm the 2007 price starting Jan 2nd 2007.
If this is not clear that Panny wish to flush their stock !

And one gave me the estimated ("speculated") 1000€ on 16GB

How to get the lowest price for European? Easy.

Based on 4GB and 8GB P2:

When a P2 is tagged 1000€ in Europe, it is tagged 1000$ in the US (approx.)
If you integrate the €/$ ration, this results in 700/800 € for those buying online!

A secondary idea: Why not making a P2 group buying ? ;-)

Everything contributing to lower price for prosumer is GOOD, isn't?

I'm about to buy two 8GB cards @ 1192 each for a production that'll begin shooting mid Jan. Any clue when these price cuts will be effective in the US?

You have ebay stores selling 8GB @ 800. Why bother?

If the rebate occurs in Europe first quarter (an almost 50% drop), it would be inconsistent that US won't follow.

What rebate are you referring to? The free 8gig card for purchase of authorized dealer HVX?
 
I try to buy my equipment from reputable and authorized dealers, those extra 400dlls are worth it when it comes to claiming a warranty. But I did check eBay, no 800 cards...

There are already some french dealers (yes, authorized dealer) proposing the 550€ slashed price.
This can't be an isolated opportunity, will probably spread first quarter 2007.

But, at least, P2 costs less in 2 places (see pic/link above) and this significant price cut is a clear message that 16 Gb couldn't be far from now.

You could email this shop to check on this and if they ship abroad (out of VAT).

2 x 725 + 30 (or less for additional shipping) = 1480

that's 104 shy of a grand less...
so if you need to get the card shipped there for any reason it would mean trading an additional 2-4 days more waiting for a grand! heck, in that case you just turn around and buy an 8G from a us dealer by then they'll be the same $ and a 4G that you can ue to hold u over...

It will be interesting to see if they also drop the P2-stores price now. Because with these prices you can get 24GB for 1 P2 store and 24GB is plenty for one days shooting.....
 
Today's Euro to dollar conversion says that 725 euro is about 963 dollars.

Not that big a price drop for me to buy more cards.
