Smallest / Compact Red Configuration?

I'd like to see some other RED configurations that are the most compact without any red cage or rail. Is it possible to mount the battery or the Red drive underneath the camera and have that mounted on the tripod much like the firestore on the panasonic hvx200? Or even mounted on the top or on both sides and still be able to quickly swap both out? (We have only seen them separted from the camera on the back of the rail.)

Lastly - how quiet are the hard drives going to be?
I was planning on using the new Holophone surround mic on top of the camera and not pick up and hard drives or fan noise. Thanks.

i was thinking of this for a while too. discreet compact configuration with just a handle bar on top.

is it possible to turn off the red light? :)

No. Every shot ever taken with the RED will have an irritating red glow on foreground objects. It will be the camera's downfall.

 I couldn't resist.

There is no red glow button on the front of the camera... and the lens mount doesn't glow red either. We tried to do both but just can't seem to figure it out. I'm particularly disappointed that we can't get the RED ONE to eminate smoke while just sitting there. That was one of my favorite ideas...

Jim - gee, that's no problem, just throw a little dry ice in the sensor well and a few drops of water....

Mike, CO2 is heavier than air so the smoke would fall and look lame. Not the look I want. We need the smoke to rise like a smoking gun.

That's it! I'm sending my reservation back. I wanted the lava glow on the inside, and at the very LEAST some toxic smoke plumes out the lens mount! This is false advertising. RED suxx0rs LOL WTF!!!!

Back on topic... I too would love to see the minimal configuration of the RED-One. No cage, just a handle on top, a lens, and a battery. But only do it if you have spare time from actually building the thing! Don't waste time satisfying our obsessive techo-lust for more renders of the thing, just try to make Spike work. If you need a breather from the grueling tasks that lay ahead, ONLY THEN make some more renders for our viewing pleasure!

jeez, Jim. You need to learn to stop living in the dream world. There are some things that just won't work in real life. :Drogar-Evil(DBG):

This is great news. With all of the features you are giving us, and the power it takes to push around all these pixels and jam them into Redcode, I thought the real trick was *NOT* to make it smoke just sitting there!

Thom, LOL. The engineer types who kept telling me Red could never be done always came back to the heat issue and the FPGAs.

The smoke is great to create some atmosphere. So we know it'll smoke quite a bit at 4K 60fps but what about 720? Where's the chart?

Hey jim I got you covered with the smoke. Take one of these apart...you might even be able to use the light from the front for the glow, just add a filter to it. :)
