How about the store Studio Exchange. I got this off of the Sony.com sight. Can anyone recommend this store? I guess if sony.com has it as a link, that should tell me that it's lagit right? I'm looking to buy this week. Thanks.
Studio Exchange in Burbank offers the HVX on Ebay with a Buy it Now of $4995. Since they are an authorized Panasonic dealer, you get the book and 8 mb P2 card. Mine should arrive tomorrow, I will post immediately if anything is awry. I checked them out pretty thoroughly before ordering and they seem OK.

I just recieved my camera and 2 free batteries from Spec-comm today. They were very helpful and speedy. Not many places will give you free shipping and get it to you 2 days after you placed the order.

Got my HVX and batteries last Friday from Spec Comm. Looking forward to getting my hands on Barry's HVX book.

Note: an unauthorized dealer does not necessarily mean a scam shop, although all scam shops are inherently unauthorized dealers. Some good companies are on the unauthorized dealer list, but some very bad "Crooklyn" scam shops are on there too. For U.S. customers, buying from an authorized dealer ensures that you will get the full manufacturer's warranty, as well as the free "Magic Bullet Editors" software and the DVX Book/DVD, and any rebates and special promotions.

If you buy from a non-authorized dealer, you may or may not get the manufacturer's warranty. *If your box does not include the "Magic Bullet For Editors" software or the DVX Book/DVD, you *will not* have a US warranty, and you will *not* be eligible for the rebate. And if you buy from a "scam shop" you'll be lucky if you get anything at all other than a headache and the knowledge that you've willingly given your credit card number to a "business" that makes a regular habit out of lying to and cheating its customers.

And for those who are still tempted, who they'll save a few bucks by going with the non-authorized reseller, we recommend you check out a few sites:

http://www.resellerratings.com - here you can read reviews on the aforementioned stores, and decide if they're really the kind of place you want to spend your money,

and

http://www.panix.com/~donwiss/pictures/BrooklynStores - here you can see pictures of the storefronts for some of these places, and *really* decide if they're the kind of store you want to send money to.

I noticed that Profeel was on the above non-authorized dealer list..though their website seems to sujest that you'll reveive the free P2 card and book when purchasing from them? Anyone know whats with that?

Which Dealers Are the "Authorized" Ones?

Which Dealers Are the "Authorized" Ones?

I did check on the Panasonic site, but they only listed companies like Best Buy and Sears etc. Are these the only authorized dealers? The importance to me is that I'm going to buy the HVX 200 before Dec. 31st to get the free P2 card so it has to be from an authorized dealer. I'm in LA and would like to avoid the sales tax if possible. I was looking at B&H in NY which is selling a few hundred dollars cheaper than the list price. Any ideas? Or do you guys know where I can confirm who's authorized or not? I don't want to miss out on the deal.

I do appreciate anyone who takes the time to respond and help me out here. So if you can help, please do. Thanks.

Profeel is not an authorized dealer.

If getting a $1200 P2 card for free is important to you, I'd recommend only buying from an authorized dealer, as that will guarantee you get everything you're entitled to. Profeel isn't authorized. They may be reselling cameras that were bought from an authorized dealer, which means they may actually qualify for the free card, but -- do you really want to take that chance?

Samy's in Venice, $4999

Samy's in Venice, $4999

Hi, I just bought an HVX200 at Samy's in Venice for $4999. They are an authorized dealer. Kenji at Samy's was very helpful, and he worked with me on some other gear as well.

It's the Pro Video/Edit department, so they're only open during the week. M-F, 9-6. If you're in LA, they're worth a visit.

I attempted ordering an HVX from spec-comm.com and was very disappointed with their service. First off, you can't place an order from the website, I had to call to have an invoice emailed to me, sign it, fax it back, and then email my credit card information. This was a couple days ago. I emailed them the next day asking if they received everything and when my item would ship and didn't receive a response. So I called today and they told me it was sold out and they wouldn't be able to get one to me for weeks. I cancelled my order. I'm upset that they didn't notify me earlier that the item was sold out. I had to call in days later to find out. I was planning on having the camera for a shoot this weekend but now I obviously won't.

I just placed an order with B&H, a company I trust. I have bought many items from them over the years.

I've just joined the club. I live locally so, I drove over and bought my HVX200 from http://www.studio-exchange.com/ for $4,999. They are official Panasonic dealers. They currently have 15 or so left in stock.

I also got an 8gB P2 card pretty damn cheap. And a good deal on a Bogen 503 + 351 combo. Call on the phone and ask to talk to Gary Carter.

Hey thanks for reposting that about the authorized dealers Barry, I have your original post bookmarked from a while ago. :) Anyway, I was wondering what kind of DVXuser discount applies at Abel? (And if it still applies..?) Has anyone picked up an HVX from there recently? Thanks.

I just bought my camera from Studio exchange. They were very friendly and the "3" day shipping came llitterally overnight. I ordered it Thursday evening (shipped from Cali to PA) and it arrived the next morning (that was very quick). They are a licensed dealer and I would say I had a good experience in case others want to buy a camera from them. Paid a lot less than most companies wanted to charge me as well for it so I am overall happy with them,

Sigh. I'm in Europe, so no matter where I buy, I will not get a free P2 card.

:-(

Odd, as Panasonic is not as strong here as in the US. You'd think they give away stuff to gain marketshare?

This is what you see (left) vs what you get (right) if you buy an HVX from Brooklyn...

I wouldn't take that chance, and I've dealt with Profeel before and had a good experience!

I just paid a down payment for an HVX through Shawn Tallard at Full Compass. Excellent customer service across the boards. I will be paying the rest of my owed balance tomorrow to ensure I can get the free 8GB P2 and Barry's book before the rebate period ends.

I just wanted to extend my thanks for all the usefull information everyone has posted on this forum regarding the HVX. The information I have gathered from reading through all of your posts is priceless and has lead me to make my biggest electronics purchase ever. I can't wait to get my hands on this thing!

The HVX's are great cameras for the money, and $5,000+ is a good chunk of money, which is why it's important to step back when someone tempts you with a low $ deal. Are you sacrificing any quality of service, and is it worth it? Maybe, but then again, maybe not.

All I ask you to consider is if that place earned your business, or have they simply offered to buy your business at a relatively small cost savings?

I encourage any potential buyers to contact me and other dealers, as well as other forum members regarding their experience with Full Compass. I hope you will find that I bust hump to earn my clients business, and not simply buy it.

Our sales staff is paid 100% on commission which is a good thing for customers because that means I work just that much harder to make a great experience for you.

Even if our price isn't the lowest, I can promise that your experience will be friendly, fast, accurate, and at competetive prices.

:D

Thanks again for allowing me to be a member of this great forum/community.

Also avoid any and all companies that insist on payment via Western Union, E-Gold, wire transfer, money order, or similar services and modalities, and which do not accept credit cards -- the people behind these sites are Nigerian scammers. Once your money has been sent, you cannot get it back, and you will never receive the goods.
Any price below $5495.00 is a good price for a HVX200, if purchased from a professional Panasonic Broadcast dealer who provides support. The margin on this camera is very low for a dealer. He will make less than 10% most of the time. I know. I have seen the real dealer invoice from a friend in the business. And when you consider how much better this camera is compared to any HDV so-called professional camera, it is a bargain at List price of $5995.00.
