Yes I'm afraid I have another adaptor.

vidwerk - i don't think i've seen that matte box before. where did you get it? does it work well? justin and i have been wanting to try one with the snod35.

I got it on ebay. It is an EWA S8K Compendium meant for use with super 8 movie cameras with a lens diameter of 62mm. I haven't actually used it yet.
It needs repairing. It is in the photo for show only.

Hello! I am also currently building an adapter based on the information presented in this thread. At this point I have all the requisite pieces assembled and have been "dry fitting" them in order to gauge correct distances that the elements need to be from one another.

This is where I am having issues. I have been doing as instructed on this thread but am not quite confident enough with focal sharpness to glue everything into place. In order to get the distance from the FD mount to the Focusing Screen I actually measured the distance from the FD mount to the gate / shutter on a broken 35mm camera (the one I got the fd mount from to begin with). This gives me a good idea of how far back from the front of the adapter to place the screen (give or take a millimeter or two). But I am having trouble getting an exact distance from the CO 7x macro to the screen.

How are people getting this distance, just testing with the lens set to infinity? Do you do it outside to focus on the horizon? I really want these distances to be perfect as to keep as much crispness in the image as possible. It also seems like at this scale that millimeters do really matter.

Anyone willing to post a work flow of how to correctly gauge these distances?

For my first, I measured 43.7mm (minolta flange focal standard).

For a later version, the base of the mount was too hard to measure accurately, so I set the lens to infinity and went outside and adjusted the GG until infinity was in sharp focus. This worked like a charm. For best results open the lens wide open, and use a wide angle lens if possible (the DOF behind the lens is shallower for a wide angle lens, than a long lens, the opposite of in front of the lens.)

Johnny5, the CO to the screen is a trial and error deal. You have to test out different
distances to minimize vignetting and the focus for the DVX or any other kind of camera
you're using.

I just had a thought ad wondered if anyone had a similar experience:
I have my focusing screen set at the perfect distance from the lens, but I'm about to add a Macro 7+ (being shipped to me) and I wonder if this will affect the current distance of the gg holder in the adapter.

Any thoughts?

>I have my focusing screen set at the perfect distance from the lens

Which lens? The DVX or the 35mm?

The Macro should be between the DVX and the Ground Glass, not affecting the distance between the 35mm lens and the GG.

Thanks for the input...I'll just continue to trial and error it...I think I'm going to need a longer length of PVC as my current setup *barely* seems to focus if the d screen fills frame...

It's from the DVX. my 10+ is betwen the DVX and the GG.
I just noticed that if i moved the GG 10 mm forwards or backwards in my tube, the quality of the image changed. So with that in mind I'm hoping that placing another macro 7+ after the macro 10+ wouldn't affect the image. its hard to find a camera shop here with actually sells parts for cameras anymore so for me its been hit and miss and hoping to hell that it works when it comes together....

Any ideas on what the best combination of Macros is to get rid of vignetting on my 28mm lens? I'm currently using only the Asian Macro 10+ with Macro 7+ on the way...

does anyone know if lowes has the PVC parts? (2" PVC cleanout, 2" PVC cap, etc)

they don't have them at my home depot! i'm stuck.

i bought the nibco at home depot in the garden section today. they had the parts but its ABS plastic not PVC, but it shouldnt make much of a difference. theyre the same stock number.

Nibco 2" PVC Cleanout: Stock number: C5803-2 UPC code: 0 3992319440 4
Nibco 2" PVC Adapter: Stock number: C5804 UPC code: 0 3992319472 5

On page 19, Super8 says Canon EE-A and Canon EE-S focusing screen does not work because of a visible ring when zoomed in.

Have your test proved differently.

Let us know thanks,
Gav

thanks for the info gabin. i wish i checked the forums yesterday or i would have taken you up on your offer. i'm gonna keep trying at my home depot until they get them in.

Can someone help me fill in the dimensions for the EDv2. I read that from the FD mount to nikon d is 43mm, but i'm not sure what the dimensions are after that.

It's not important. The most important is the flange focus, or back focus. But, don't trust the 43mm. Adjust it till the focus is perfect.

Well ummm yeah....bueller. I figure I need to adjust it but I was hoping to get some rough dimensions so I can cut away some of the excess before I put my tweaks on it, thanks.

Here is a Nikon F Type D Focus screen:

Also, I notice that Asian 10+ are being listed in the thread.

I have found that Hoya makes a double element 10+ lens. This is not the cheap version that you usally see on ebay but is must better. The price runs about $60-$80 bucks.

Here is a link I found that has additional information for this lens (Oddly enough it is hard to find.):

http://www.adorama.com/HYCU1055.html

It's not a 58mm but comes in 55mm.

Hope this helps,
James
