So I am a big fan of the HD-SDI out for a number of reasons including a high-quality output with a connector that doesn't break off if you look at it wrong. But say if I wanted to run out the image to the rest of the crew ... sound guy, art dept., multiple wireless receivers running around the set ... for reference.

Is there any room for a bnc to output a downconverted SD signal switchable from 16:9 to letterbox ... or can one of the dual-link connectors be repurposed for this if you don't need or want to use daul-link. Sometimes it's easier to push around a simple signal.

I think this would be great to have. The newer Sony/Panasonic HD cameras have built in standard-def downconversion (composite and sdi). It will be required for many projects and one less box hanging off the camera is always nice.

Well, both Jim, Stuart and Greame has stated numerous times that they wont do SD and analog output.

It would be cool though if they would consider repackaging the AJA HD10MD3, in a nice black dockable RED enclosure.

Don't know what the delay is on that thing, but most of the cheaper ones has about 4 frames delay.

Maybe Ted knows someone at AJA? :-)

I can understand if there isn't enough room in there for an D/A to kick it out, but I saw the potentially-extra BNC and thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. One less thing I would need to hang off the camera.

besides ... I keep saying that I will no longer eat my wife's dark chocolate covered pretzels and you can guess how that turns out.

The AJA HD10MD3 is a great little piece of gear and using it we measured the downconversion delay to 1 frame @ 25 fps. And it really looks good. Especially when dealing with 25 PsF which can sometimes cause trouble on vertical lines. Well... that's our experience

cheers
