Will All Reds Be Equal?

I wonder........Maybe i will get a dud:(

I hope James Mather does not mind me part quoting his post.

Moreover I have just finished a TV film using 2 f900 mk3 sonys and I have to say if never see those cameras again it'll be too soon. They caused a nightmare in post for colour and contrast matching (utterly impossible - Arri london threw up their hands and said "it's not unheard for there to be some differences between cameras" - and gave up - One camera had more contrast ratio than the other - the only solution was to compress the range of the good one), electronic moiring moving through the image on one camera, apparent resolution differences between the cameras (only apparent when they were cut together on a hidef monitor -

How would we know? for sure.... Just eh....curious you understand:)

SD memory card to store all camera settings will be the likely tool for multiple RED Ones set up. So Don't leave Home without a SD card for RED shootings in the world.

Identical camera settings and identical camera performance are two different things.

Hi,

Unless I am missing something, there should be very few camera settings to make when working raw.

With the Viper in film stream it's shutter angle and exposure, thats it!

Hi Stephen,

I think Mikko's point was that the original poster was talking more about quality control than camera settings.

For once I am going to agree with Stephen :-)

The less variables, the less likelihood of error or discrepancy. Shoot RAW (hopefully REDCODE with a RED ONE) and about the only thing that can be different is the sensor. And that is unlikely.

But if you DO get a "dud", we'll fix it or replace it.

Hence, another aspect to the service pool, if it happens to grow due to unpurchased REDs. Would I be correct in this line of thought? If so, another comforting reason (among the many) to go RED, relax, create and prosper.

Been working with the viper and stwo gear a lot lately, and it sounds like most of the problems that they're having with the F900's are with the onboard processing and recording to a compressed format (hdcam-sr). Shooting a raw sensor is a very different thing, there's no instant make pretty button, but there is the allowing for planned looks and custom LUTs.
