Anyone Feel Left Out of 8GB Card?

Hey guys,
I got my camera a few months ago, and since I knew I needed alot of room to record I opted for the FireStore 100. So far so good, but its missing alot of options that the P2 cards offer.
I probably missed the promotion to get a free 8GB card by a month or two .:crybaby:  :furious3:
So I'm wondering if any of you who bought the camera recently feel the way I do and if we all got together maybe we could petition Panasonic. I mean, I love the Camera, but these P2 cards are expensive, and for them to start to give them away now. I mean Common.
I don't mind when they give promotional items when the product they are selling is new. But when they do it afterwards it feels like a slap in the face.
Just my 2 cents.

Dxmetal. I know. I think we still have to pay for firmware 3.0 (still not out) and there is the weight issue. the P2 card make it so much more mobile. But thanks for the info. :)
also one of the contacts on my fs100 battery just broke and will have to send it for repair. I was just told by focus enhancements that there is a 3-4 week wait after they receive it. So that 8gb card would really come in handy right about now.

Petition Panasonic for what? Give everybody a free P2 card? And what about the Kata bag promotion that was run in Europe? Would you like one of those as well?

Or would it be better if Panasonic somehow kept the prices of the cameras and P2 cards at their original MSRP and never offered incentives or ran promotions? That way the original adopters wouldn't have to feel bad about paying more than those who are buying today.

Arrrrrrrrrrrr!

Arrrrrrrrrrrr!

I'm going to petition Dell so that the computer I am about to buy will be shipped to me with a free printer that they will begin offering in about 6 months time.

That just saves everyone time and trouble.

While I'm at it, I'm going to ask for the same price that it will be reduced to in 6 months. Why should the people of the future get a deal that I won't here and now? The future will already be blessed with ray guns and anti-gravity. Enough discrimination to us in the here and now! Who's with me? :Drogar-Love(DBG):

I'm with you Mars. In fact I am going to call that hard drive company from 10 years ago that charged me $2300 for a 9 GB drive. How dare they drop the price of that thing and offer a free cable with it now. Or was that buy a $30 cable and get the free 9gb drive?

OK, moderators. We demand a new sticky! "101 Reasons Why Lowering Your Prices/Offering Future Incentives Will Get You Royally Blasted On The DVXuser Forum".

Feel free to shorten the title.

I demand that future moderators lock this thread! Or the current ones if the future moderators aren't available...

The current moderators are too busy trying to petition the future moderators, who are too busy getting ready to lower their moderation for the future:)

Mutiny the Thread

Mutiny the Thread

OK, I don't see any moderators either. I'M TAKING OVER!

OK, THoff, ozduc, you two are gonna need Avatars. Preferably something with a weapon, like mine.

Get as many DVXusers together as you can (everyone needs a six pack of beer) and meet back here at midnight.

:Drogar-Smoke(DBG):

GO!

There is a qualitative difference between a $50.00 printer and a $1200.00 p2 card, don't you think?

That reflects approximately 20 per cent of the cost of the cam - roughly.

I would urge Panasonic to at least reward the earlier adopters who basically provide feedback that lead to sales.

Give a discount on the card to authorized purchasers.

I don't see any harm in discussing this here. After all, Panasonic has a voice here, and that's great. And the company has always been responsive.

Queaky wheel == grease, etc.

David,

you may be right. This is a forum to discuss things, and people should feel free to do so.

I really am about to buy a $4500 Dell, and I KNOW it's gonna come down drastically over the next year. In fact, very soon it will be worthless. I guess I just think that this is something that sucks, but we've generally come to accept in the world of technology. Why not with these cutting edge cameras?

Also, it just occurs to me that we have the freedom in our day to day business to offer our services at whatever rate we like. That is just sort of the capitalist system as we know it.

But I respectfully acknowledge that sure, if you can get a free card by squeaking, then by all means! If I were in the same boat I might jump on that band wagon myself ... who knows.

Cheers.

PS - I was kidding about the "Taking Over" thing. Tonight I appear to be the early adopter of BEER. Respect.

i have a 486/33 with 8 megs of ram and a 200 megabyte hard drive in a dusty corner of the basement. That thing cost me $3200 of student loan money in 1990. The usb drives they give away free have 10x its storage and my fridge has more cpu power. All electronics drop in price, early adopters always pay a premium, its the price you pay for being first and eventually more experienced.

wow wow. Ok people I get it. I am aware that technology will drop in price. and yes the computer I'm typing on now though less than a year old has dropped dramatically in price. but $1200 in 2 months. Man that just hurts.
Had I know or had any inclinations of this I would have waited. When I bought my JVC GY500 they were including a lense for the first few months that they sold the camera. anyone who didn't buy early didn't get a deal. This convinced me to buy the camera early and felt like a good deal.

As for all those that want to block this thread, go ahead. I try not to take things personal.

I was just voicing my opinion, if you don't like it, you are free to voice yours.
Thanks for all the input guys.

16 years versus approximately six months.

The price of the HVX200 hasn't dropped.

Panasonic is providing a free p2 card when you buy it

That's great. People are just asking Panasonic to extend the free incentive back to the 1st of the year or so

No harm in that.

It's ain't gonna happen, but at least we can ask.

Man, I know you're feeling the same pain as the guys trying to sell their HVX's at the moment, but Panasonic is never going to give you a free 8 GB card. Occasionally, I'm an early adopter and I just look at how much use I've gotten while other folks waited for something. Since I'm writing from the future, I'll tell you that 64 GB cards are only $600 and all those free 8 GB P2 cards are on eBay for $50 Buy It Now price. :)

The price didn't drop by $1200 -- wait a few weeks and the promotion period will be over, and the "price" if that is how you want to perceive it will go back up.

I feel the pain of the ones who bought their HVXs too early to qualify, but Panasonic pretty much did this thing right IMHO. They did after all make the deal retroactive for over a month, with the official announcement in early November and the effective date of Oct 1st. This made it possible for me, for example, to get the free card even though I bought my camera before the offer was announced. Had I been cut out of the deal by only a few days margin I think I would have had a good case to complain, but they "grandfathered" it back, and I think that's pretty fair.

I have to admit on the other hand being pretty ticked at Apple when I bought FCP v3 a few years ago for $1K, about three days before v4's release was announced, and I wasn't eligible for a free upgrade even though the full v4 version still cost $1K. The "instant obsolescence upgrade" was going to cost me $400! That was not playing fair IMHO, and I was pretty steamed. The HVX P2 deal is different, with a reasonably generous retroactive offer.

I won't be too surprised to find that the camera's price will drop a good chunk by March or April 2007, and that 8 GB cards will too, especially as the 16 GB ones get closer to production. I'd expect an HVX with an 8 GB card package to sell for about what it does now with the "free" card by then.

So it goes with modern electronics. They almost never hold value, except as you earn money by using them...

I missed it by 3 days (Sept 28 purchase). No response from Panasonic about a "grandfathering" for even 3 days. I got over it and moved on. Better to expend the energy on making money, art or both. And I find a good single malt Scotch is a lot better cathartic than internet rants.
