Capturing 720pN24 footage in FCP

I have not used the HVX200 yet (am renting one this weekend to try out) but I received the dvd from Panasonic that has a 2nd disc with sample p2 footage on it. I'm running FCP 5.1.2 and os 10.4.8. I've tried everything but cannot get FCP to import the 720pN24 footage. It shows up in the viewer when I do the "Import P2" menu and even lets me scroll through it in that viewer. However, when i drag it into the window that does the quicktime encoding/converting, it gives me a red exclamation point and retrying does nothing. The 1080pA24 footage comes into FCP just fine, just not the 720 stuff. Does the 720pn24 work with FCP? I'm told its a great format to record in, but that won't do me much good if I can't bring into FCP. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I am definitely seeing some issues with P2 import in FCP 5.1.2. One workaround has been to go into the Clips folder of your P2 material and remove all XML files except the problematic clip(s). Otherwise, there have been numerous reports and experiences (including my own) of FCP 5.1.2 failing to import properly.

My solution, also posted here, was to use FCP 5.1.1

Thanks. I tried the workaround of removing certain xml files but that didn't work. I can't believe I have to downgrade to 5.1.1 for this problem to fix itself. I can't imagine the problem is the mxf files because they came off the panasonic dvd they shipped for the camera.

All I can say is that the only way I could import a number of files from a shoot this past weekend was to use 5.1.1 rather than 5.1.2. Yes, there is a bug in 5.1.2

The bug in FCP 5.1.2 import is primarily in spanned clips, but often there is a single clip which 5.1.2 just will not import. This footage has all been 720p60; I have not tested the problem in 1080 footage.
