Sony announces 4k camera.. and oh yes, a 1080 one too.

I've a long time observer to all RED's threads, and it seems that they only cater questions to known pro or DoP. And I agree with some that reservation holder should be in first priority and not be treated as if their comments/questions/inputs don't worth anything, they give them their money, that's stronger than 'I promise'. Their assets could be stuck for a year or so........
I wouldn't say: «don't worth anything». Otherwise, Jim has heard us more than any brand or manufacturer before. And this has been part of his success.

As I already posted: there is a risk. 'cause it can assume a fight around or on the RED development between the cine-style side more oriented for the mainstream and the «indies» in order to a run and gun and lightweight setup for low or even no budget moviemaking. Actually, these latter ones have been the real RED supporters since the beginning and not just after the last achievements. And this is why the hostility presence coming from the ###.com and ###.net forums can have a counterproductive result. These detractors well know what they are doing. For their purpose, their method is the best way to produce some effects.

IMHO, Jim knows it and we have faith in his sensibility. As matter of act as his recent posts and CARE have proved it. Even if it isn't useless our voice as reminder.

Nevertheless, it's useful this common* feeling about what we want for the RED having Jim Jannard and his view in the leadership. Even being or I would say specially being a business man I'm sure he well knows which is ours. If not why would he be here @dvxuser.com?

* I'm very glad for all the private messages and friends made coming from these forums where I've found the same indie POV that I share.

"really don't understand why you don't start with shooting some casual things outside like landscapes, etc with a standard lens, wide lens and a small tele to visually compare with 35mm instead of complicating with greenscreen work"

Frankie ( camera) is currently in a bread board state ( guessing) ... it is not something you move from location to location ...
every camera manufacturer can show you pretty pictures when their camera is finished ...
as of now 15-20 beta camera's should be ready by end of DEC... once those are ready & in the field we will probably start to see a few pretty outdoor scenes etc ..
BUT remember no other camera manufacturer shows you any pic/clips from a camera that isn't ready ... RED will be tuning the sensor etc all the way to ship date - so i wouldn't expect them to post tons of clips/photo's while they are still tuning ... it doesn't matter that RED can post a note next to photo that states sensor is not tuned = 75% of persons don't read it - they look at photo and then start asking WHY are there hot pixels !

I dunno, Gerald. I'd have to disagree with you there. My experience is that the Red team answers respectfully all along the spectrum. Of course, the major players on the forum are the guys who have been in the industry, and therefore have the most to say, and their input is what Red wants/needs. But I've never experienced them to blow anyone off.

Quite the contrary . . . that's what makes this whole thing so strange . . .

:)

I believe (or I want to) what Gerald wished to say it is what some of us are fearing as consequence of the industry strength and power over the indie world. And as I posted, they well know what they are doing.

this is classic sony marketing. Offer something thats "ok" for right now with the promise of something better later.

WEll, let me as this question, in the past, the high end market (hollywood) has always tried to offer stuff that the public coulndnt produce on theri own, to contrast the new fangles TV sets i nthe 40's the widescreen aspect ratio was born, once TV 's started catching up, then 5.1 digital sound in the theaters, then that came home, then it was about "remasterd Film prints for optimal image qualuity" ( remeber for a while they were re-releasing all you fav movies) then HD came home, and now The HVX XLH1, can produce 1080P which is nearly the quality of theater film..... So the next logical step for high end production is an EVEN HIGHER resolution format. 4K.

IS this new camera and equpitment just a way for holly wood to stay competetive and "ahead" of consumer tech?

Hi,

But that's the same with all consumer goods from Cars to computers, you name it.

Acehole is quoting a horrifying local commercial campaign for a pain reliever. Acehole just mentioning it gives me the shaking sweats. To truly understand, you must see the commercial:

I agree with you Emanuel, an indie myself, and big supporter of RED's camera too, it will be good for the industry. But they chose to use 'Forum' marketing method, so lets follow through. That's all I meant, didn't mean to be counter-productive. We should ask questions that only will help them, and just kindly explain in 'forum' logical detailed manner (also don't mean that they have to reveal their IPs too). Not just 'we won't dissapoint...', tell us a bit more and also not all of us indie knows all the 'technical' concepts of image acquisition.

Gerald,

First of all, be welcome to our forum. I was also monitoring during six/eight months since the HVX announcement before joining the Jarred's and indie's land as well. My prior background was the S16 and Cinealta corner. Now is RED.

As I posted, I wanted to believe (and I effectively do) your bet is not to be counterproductive as some people have been. 'cause they have a goal to accomplish. My message: RED is ours!
