RED and David Stump, ASC

Cool.

Next up, John Toll takes the Red to the jungles of Borneo!

We are leaving that assignment to you Tom once red is available:)

I think heat transfer and working temperatures under humid conditions might well prove to be quite a task to get absolutely right. When you think of the extreme conditions that this camera will be put through it will be a near miracle to get everything just right.

I find it amazing and very instructive as to each move Jim Jannard decides on. It is a lesson for everyone on how to do good business with a product you have great passion for and a desire to provide for yourself and your customers the best possible camera all things considered.

We all know that red is a small team and resources are naturally limited. Priorities have to be given to work in getting the camera finsihed and working properly. A lot of discussion has gone into lenses and as we know red is going to be making their own lenses. Given that team red is small who is going to be making the lenses, red or Oakley (confirmed by red?). Will or has Jim set up a small team already to deal with the lenses within red or likewise Oakley (probably Oakley) side of things or has he other ideas? I cant help but wonder just how much can this small red team do beyond miracles:)

Just to get this clear: is it safe to assume that the RED will work under conditions normal DV and HDV cameras work? It is my plan to use the RED extensively in tropical environments and I haven't had problems with regular cameras yet. How about comparing it with a DLSR? Or is RED different in the sense that the throughput of data is much higher so temperatures will get higher too? What could be problems to expect?

We'll know better after the 1st (non-Frankenstein) bodies go together next month. Our theoretical modeling shows a viable solution to heat. And we have a backup plan.

REDCOOL liquid nitrogen cartridges?

Inside sources say that the Mysterium sensor is surrounded by a glob of Dentyne Ice chewing gum. As some of you may know... "Nothing's colder than ice."

It is really though getting the camera to work reasonably at such humid and 90 degrees F condition. With film camera is to get it to work under really cold condition. Lets wait for RED's post after they did the characterization of the camera, it's truly a challenge

That would be really nice, use a superconductor sensor that can detect the visible spectrum with accuracy. Even UV and IR range too.

This is no future, they have shot the milk close up with the RED 300mmm

It is no secret that Peter Jackson has his reservation in... as does James Cameron.

Jim

Care to hint where they stand on the reserve list?
It would be nice to know that I'm lower on the list than the "king of the world".

P.S.- I'm anxiously awaiting my titanium R. Please give the person casting these things a big hug. I'm sure he/she's close to a mental breakdown by now.

I remember hearing reports of James Cameron buying into Red at a very early stage and I think Peter Jackson's name was banded about a very long time ago. Probably sub 300 mark if my memory serves me.

DOH!!!!!!

Any chance we can get some of today's footage? If we could we could test Stump (on the Genesis via VFXphd) vs Stump (on the Red camera). It would be a pretty accurate comparison of the two cameras.
