What is my HVX worth... for selling?

I want to sell my HVX, but I really have no clue what it's worth or where to sell it! I guess I will create an account on EBAY?... but aren't buyers going to be a little skeptical of me as a first-time seller? Any other good places to sell an HVX?

The camea is in pristine shape. We only used it for 6 days this summer, and I have not touched it since. It's been in the box.

I have one extra high-capacity battery, a nice Porta Brace bag with a rain-slicker, a 30-foot composite cable to run to a field monitor, and two 8GB P2 cards that have been treated like babies.

What do you think this camera is worth?

Hi Tom, I'd suggest starting here at DVXUser to sell your camera package in the MarketPlace section... since you've been here a while, that's "street cred" when it comes to your reputation.

E-Bay is fine, I've sold a Canon XL1, a 35mm Cameflex 35mm, and my old DVX with no issues, but since coming here to DVXUser, I'd sure start here when it's time for my HVX package to go on the block.

I did run into quite a few issues with people trying to work side deals on E-Bay, all of which should be taken as illegal and plain wrong. Stay the course, don't end bidding early, do escrow, etc. To build up E-Bay ratings, you could sell a number of smaller times to get feedback, that's what I did a while back...

As to your package price, I couldn't advise. Maybe take 75% to 85% of your original cost for all items as a starting point?

Regards,

$6000-6500 considering that you get a free 8gb card free with a new camera and you can get a used one for about 5k.

Unfortunately the camera is worth about $1100 less today than it was yesterday because of the 8gb card rebate. If you figure you can get a new one from an authorized dealer for about 5k with a free 8 gig card, add 1100 for another 8 gig card, that comes to about $6100. That would be what someone could get what you have new. As your package is used you're going to have to take off at least a few hundred bucks to make it worth buying. Of course you could get more if you sell it to someone who hasn't heard about the new rebate offer. YOu might feel a little guilty at first, but you'll get over it.

Maybe I should just wait out the offer, then sell? Or basically I have to throw in a free P2 card?

Prices may drop after January or they may offer 2 8GB cards free with the camera . There's no better time than the present as prices in technology tend to go down.

Id say around 7K , dont get lowballed.

I don't know about that. I'm about to buy the HVX. Let's see, a new HVX for $5,299 at B & H. Free P2 8gig. I already have a camera bag and 3 extra DVX100 batteries (they are compatible). I could add a second P2 and still be way less, for a NEW cam. Right?

You have a nice package with the field monitor and everything. You are giving a potential buyer a pretty complete package. Yes, the p2 thing might lower your value a bit, but camera, 2 p2 cards, batteries, bag, field monitor... what else did I miss. That's not a bad little package. I don't know what your bag and field monitor cost, but let's say.... You only used the camera that little bit... so let's say 5k for the camera and one of the p2 cards. Maybe a little less. Then maybe around 600-700 for the second p2 card. And something similar for the field monitor, etc. I think you might be able to come into a 6500 - 7k range for your package???? Just my thinking out loud.

*Sorry I didn't read your post well. It's not a field monitor but a cable. So I think 5k for the camera and a p2 card, and 1k for everything else. That puts you around 6k. That is a more than fair deal for anyone wanting to buy an HVX. If that's not too low for you...

If you can get a new camera and 1 card for $5000 and another 8gb card for about $1100, portabrace bag and rain slicker for a couple hundred bucks, you're still under $6500 so I think for used equipment about $4500- $5000 would be the market range.
Just look at it this way.
Did you get your money's worth out of it for the 6 day shoot?
If not, then unless you start using it now to make money, it will de-value even further, so sell it now. If you wait 'till the P2 rebate is over, who knows what other deal or promotion will be introduced.

And you got screwed by Panasonic in what way?

Not to put words in his mouth, but I think the timing of the promotion "screwed" him because he's trying to get the most for his gear. Because of the deal, his gear is not worth as much.

Well, that's how to understood his post anyway.
