The Prestige

I got to double Michael Caine in this. He is one of the nicest, kindest men I have ever met. What a pleasure
You're doing stunts for INTO THE WILD???? I LOVE that book and cant wait for it to come out in the theatres.

my main beef with this film was this... If Bale sent Jackman to Tesla, then surely Jackman should have been prepared for the fact that Bale had a double too.

Once we saw the tophats and cat get recreated I thought it was a given that Bale had a double - after all he had already visited Tesla and pulled off an act that required a double! At that point with all the 'I dont love you today' lines, I think they could have sped it up as the audience was ahead by then. It was just puzzling that Jackman didn't even consider the possibility that Bale might have had his own double, he seemed suprised...... very odd.

Still, it didnt detract from it being a good film, I was just expecting the carpet to be pulled from under me but it ended as I think a lot predicted.

But I love Nolan, he has a real nack of making commercial but compelling movies.

just watched it on dvd with my parents. i still can't get over how cool this film was. for me it was extra good, cause it dealt with magic, and myself being a magician. jackman never disappoints, and i really like bale, and Caine can do no wrong by me. my dad liked the film (which means a lot, cause he doesnt like a lot of movies at all) i cant wait to watch it with the commentary, and watch the special features.

I watched it, too. Really enjoyed it. Jackman did a fine job, decent American accent. Haha, what is it with Aussies playing Americans? Sometimes I think they do a better job than some American actors. Christian Bale was good, as always. And what can you say about Michael Caine. He's an effin genius.

I've been wanting to purchase this on DVD... but might end up moving to an HD player soon so I want the HD version.

But I love this movie.

You know, I saw this on a plane and really didn't care for it, but after reading through this thread I see I'm going to watch it again in a more controlled setting.

yeah, my take was always that bale's brother was real. That's why he cared for him so much at the end, when they had to split up. But Darkline's point is still relevant regardless. Hugh should have at least entertained the notion that he had a double. Though I wasn't all that clear on what Bale's background with Tesla was. Even if Bale did know him, at that point Tesla still didn't know that his machine worked. So how would he have been able to give Bale a double?

I thought this movie was great. I loved the production design, the feel of the film, and overall the duel between the characters. I really felt like they got that right. You knew these two hated each other. And Hugh ending up being even more crazy than Bale... I didn't expect it. But I bought it.

This film has so many questions that I'm not even sure I'm ready to understand. When Hugh's body splits into two, why is he okay with killing himself? Since both of himselves will be himself, I don't see him wanting to kill himself. Knowing that one will suffer. And if he knows that he will soon be falling into the water and drowning (I assume he knows it's down there), and it's not a surprise, why would he do that? Ugh, it hurts my brain to try and put that together.

Oh, the last thing I wanted to say is I hate Christian Bale's weird drawl when he talks. Like part of his lip is stuck to his teeth. Talk normal man!

becuase he wants to be the man who can pull off trick. he doesnt feel bad because he knows he will stil always have the glory and trick that no one could figure out. plus hugh was always about him him him when the 2 bales both got something out it... hugh charcter wants to make sure hes the only one getting credit.

The film scenes involving the magic tricks were great. Harkens back to the old days... Tom Gunning's "Cinema of Attractions" concept.

Somebody please tell me this, Were we supposed to find out that Christian Bale has a twin brother/lookalike of himself early on in the movie. I mean I figured it within the first 10 minutes. I'm assuming the audience is supposed to and then the final twist is Hugh Jackman faking the whole tranportation thingy.

I hated this movie.

Agreed, it was clear in the shots from early on that it was either his twin or a clone. There was no other explaination for that mystery guy. Totally retarded and poorly shot. I liked the film outside of that subplot. In fact, I thought it would have been much cooler if Bales character had snuck into that machine previous to Wolverine and actually cloned himself. That would have been a more plausible revelation for that mystery guy. I mean, a twin!?! That's such a cheap way out of a problem. it's a writer's taboo even. Lame.

I loved 'The Prestige.' Thought it was superb. There's so many levels you can analyze the film on. The mystery was great, though at times you could see certain aspects coming. I think the deeper appreciation of this film is with understanding the complex motives behind why the characters did what they did and when they did it.

Michael Caine was DA BOMB in Jaws 4 yo!!

I was kinda let down by The Prestige. It wasn't as great as I would have hoped. I didn't like the big "surprise." Overall it was a decent flick, though.

That's what I thought happened cause I thought somewhere during the movie "Wolverine" said he was trying to find a man that had built that machine for only one other man or something, but then again I guess the whole cloning thing was an accident. That being said I had no clue how everything was happening until the end, so maybe I'm just slow and didn't figure it out early like others.
