I'm curious to see the distribution here. So, only if you have a RED reservation, check which system you use. I don't want this to turn into a debate - we all have our preferences, leave it at that. I'm just curious to see which is more popular as a primary machine for RED buyers.

Mac here. Just placed my reservation yesterday. I'll be going the super low-end route with RED and editing. SLR lenses, 4K REDCODE RAW, offline at 480p on a Dual 2GHz G5 PowerMac. I can upgrade later when more money is available.

I'm going to build a new suite closer to RED's shipment, so it doesn't matter to me. All I want is the best performance to cost ratio, with ease of post workflow to 1080p 4:4:4 or 2K finishing.

I've used FCP pretty extensively over the past year as it's really the only NLE that I've found to be efficient in working with HVX footage. It's also what we used to cut "The Faithful." That being said, I find that FCP has a lot of limitations and drawbacks and overall I really don't like it... I plan to resume using a PC "full-time" when my RED is shipped.

I use both but much prefer mac. I plan on replacing my Dual G5 2.5 with a Quad Dual Core Mac Pro just in time to edit RED on my FCP! If apple would actually ship a 4K monitor by then my wife will likely have a heart attack when she gets the new Apple bill but how could I resist?

Essentially cross platform, Microsoft and Linux (FC5). I would love to use only Linux, but there is too much software that are only develop for Windows....

Apple here.

Apple here.

In my post-and-production house there are 8 editing suite equipped with FCStudio. Shake and After Effects as well. 3 graphic workstations, and one authoring-and-burn-dvd's with dedicated hardware (Rimage).
finally, a data pool of 7 tera (Xserve+Xraid).

No dedicated IT personnel.

I think it's possible only with the apple stuff.

6 Render Nodes, A RAID file server, 2 Programming workstations, 2 Combusiton and Avid workstations, 6 3D studio Max and Maya stations. Roaming profiles, render management on every computer and every computer can be scheduled to run as a render node when not in use. All of the computers are also connected to the central Perforce Server for source and media management. I didn't even know how to setup a network when I started and by the end of the day everything was running peachy. I even setup a webserver so that we could run a few PHP scripts I had written for exchanging Maya render settings.

Plus a second independent network with 4 3D Studio Max Workstations, After Effects, Combustion and Premiere Pro. 4 Render machines, and two dedicated file servers.

All running on Windows Xp, Xp64 and Server 2003. It took about 1 day to setup.

PC platform, editing with Vegas and hardware based VelocityHD. Render farm of Pentium D's running Lightwave, Mojo, ZBrush, Syntheyes and Digital Fusion. Just a one guy operation, but lots of fun gear that makes me an interesting living.

With RED finally the chance to use VelocityHD to its full potential of full raster 1920 by 1080, instead of feeding it "crippled" HDCam . Hoping to use REDCINE to convert straight to VelocityHD Wavelet codec (which shows up as an AVI on machine).

Buying a new MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo notebook this month for portability of PC apps and to learn FCP, as I spend a good deal of time helping FCP editors "understand" their own software, which is a real trick having never really used it myself.

I've never used a PC, but I have tried Windows using Virtual PC. So glad I'm a mac user. I'm currently using a dual 2.5 G5 + 30" with FCStudio, Shake, etc. Looking to upgrade around the time my RED Zoom lens is delivered.

Maybe I'm wrong.

Next time (or next life) I will give a try to the pee cee side of the world.
In the meantime, I'm really happy, everyday. Do you?.
