any chance of new images before reservations expire?

Hey Jim, and the other folks at red - I've been lurking around here for a while, and I'm impressed, and I'm hopeful. And I'm on the verge of putting in a reservation too...

the one thing that's holding me back is I havent seen anything from the camera that really shows it's latitude in uncontrolled situations.

So I don't suppose there's a chance you guys could run outside with the sensor and take a few snaps of the street? They dont have to be pretty - they just have to show dynamic range - I wanna see how it deals with hot highlights. If they don't clip, I'm sold. Hell, I want to see badly exposed images, I want to see how it looks in less than ideal situations.

Basically, I'm considering giving up the cinemascope look of anamorphic lenses for all the other advantages of this camera, but clipping is just one disadvantage too far. I don't care if it's a 20k image if it clips.

I know you have said you are going to be cautious of what images you show from now on, but you'll get at LEAST one more order in by the 31st. And I have a feeling I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Cheers,

I believe there will be some outside footage at the West Coast showing, unfortunately after the reservations close. If you have any reservations about putting in a reservation :-), then I'd wait until we start taking orders again in Feb or March. If you put an order in right after we open things back up, you shouldn't have missed many spots. There will be an advantage to those that "gambled" on us early... but there is no crime in waiting.

Seriously, the only thing holding you back should be that you simply can't afford to put out 1,000 dollars for a reservation. The refund policy is great. Put out 1,000 now and if the footage doesn't look as nice as you want them..ask for a refund. it's so risk free really. Based on the short clips thus far.. do you really think anything can come close within this price range?..the genesis doesn't have this amount of resolution..and if you rent the dalsa about 6 times, you could own this camera...and this is not taking into account the amazing workflow they have lined up. Jim has already confirmed that those who reserve before oct 31st will have an advantage. Why wait when you can get a full refund any time?

Yes, and the november screening for Reservation holders is a nice little bonus for people that took the leap of faith. Its good to see Jim taking care of those that took a chance.

I wish I could go, But Brook W. will go for me. The Red Team was very accommodating in allowing Brook to go-- thanks guys...

True, we don't have the complete picture on this camera's performance, but let's be realistic- with any other camera, you don't have ANY picture of performance until production starts. Red has shown us a sneak preview. We can hope for more, but we've already seen more than any other mfr. would show. From the Red team's point of view, I can understand a cautious approach given that the prototype isn't finalized. If $1k is a non-trivial outlay now, I think you'd be well advised to wait.

Thanks man, that clears up a lot of things... (maybe you should put this in a FAQ)

I'm still touch and go though on making a reservation, mainly for financial reasons at the moment, I'm afraid... and people screaming "vaporware!" in my ear, but I'm trying to filter out the noise, so to speak. The glass is half full! The glass is half full!

So I'll take the next day or two to make a final decision.

How's the new short goin' Ruairi?

It's actually finished! there's a full rez HD 1080p trailer up on my website now:

http://www.ruairirobinson.com/silentcity/Silent_City_Trailer_1080p.mov

For anyone thats interested, pretty much all the visual effects in this were done by me, in my bedroom (and you might recognise Cillian Murphy in it - aka Scarecrow in Batman Begins) and it was shot 35mm anamorphic, for not very much money at all. Hopefully it looks like it cost a LOT more than in did to make...

Cheers,
R.

"I'm afraid... and people screaming "vaporware!" in my ear"

I would only be afraid if the deposit was non refundable and the company was founded by someone no one has ever heard of. Anyone who is screaming that RED is vaporware is sadly in denial.

it doesnt exist guys.. this was all a big conspiracy by jarred, jim and the rest of the gang.. NAB, IBC, the two ladies with a lighter and a cigar.. the porsche was all cgi.. the people who visited the ibc.. were all paid.. the casting was done secretly by the american government.

mike at hd for indies is actually bonzibuddy(automated messenger) making stuff up.

the media is fabricated.

dvx user and all the other boards that have spoken and shown red head quarters.. etc.. are all part of the conspiracy.
