hey rookie,
well if you shoot tape, your not dealing with MXF files.
Log and capture in FCP the same way you always have when shooting to tape.

HVX only records DV/DVCpro 25 format to tape so you can capture the same way any other DV format tapes. (via firewire)

thankyou esperman and erdiaz, Could you possibly tell me where to find the capture option on my computer?

It's just DV to tape. DVCPRO is P2 only. They're both 25mbps though. Kinda silly.

But the DVCPRO standard calls for a faster tape speed and a different casette size and material. So by defenition of the standard you can't ever record DVCPRO to MiniDV size tape, and if you could, you'd only get a recording time of about half as much. (Can't remember the exact speed off the top of my head now)

I just opened Final cut pressed File -> Log & Capture . I could watch the footage on my moniter.Only problem is i received this message.

Batch capture unable to proceed the tape is not threaded..

I guess that means my footage is stuck on tape?

I hope not

Thanks pros,

Guess so! Unless of course you are willing to take 10 minutes and read the section of the manual that covers the basics of logging and capturing in FCP:crybaby:

Geez Jack, you gotta take the time to learn the basics yourself before you can expect others to help.

Here it is broken down into a few basic commands

Command 1) Take FCP manual out of box.
Command 2) Open to section on capturing footage.
Command 3) Read section on capturing footage.
Command 4) If you cant do the basics after that, hire an editor.

Ok , I just took time and read the fcp. followed the directions. Im still coming to the same conclusion.

Could someone tell me what " the tape is not threaded" means?

thanks alot,

j

When i tried capture now another window pops up with a black screen in the middle reads FCP w/ apple logo. the bottom the screen reads

"Device must be in VTR mode when device control is enabled (press esc to abort)

If im not mistaken vtr mode is just vcr mode on my hvx , which i have it in.

hmmm,. clueless and confused,
