New Core 2 Duo Mac Book Pro's!!

So there's really no way to get a bluray reader/writer with this computer hugh? At least not internally. But what about externally? Are external drives generally cheaper or more expensive than internal drives?

Also, this computer has no PCMCIA slot. Does apple make an accessory like an external PCMCIA reader?

Your questions are a little premature.

Sony sells a laptop with an internal blu ray burner.

No other manufacturer does to my knowledge

Externals run about $1K USD. Given that there is no authoring software available to create blu ray DVDs, we need to wait a while.

Does Apple make an external PCMCIA reader?

No body makes one that can read p2 cards. That requires a 32-bit reader. The p2 Store is the only one I'm aware of.

Has someone experience with glossy or matte screens of previous MBp since it was already an option in Europe for the MBp duocore !

Again which one is beter for edditing??
The glossy screen on the mac book (not pro) is the same glossy screen as on the pro model with the exception of the size and resolution. When you get finger prints on the glossy screen or some other smudge then it is highly noticible. The glossy screen also has more of a saturated look to it so it's color is not as natural (Apple's site states that the glossy screen is more saturated). Dont get me wrong though both will work but the matte seems to be the better choice to mua.

When the hell is the Dual-Systems express card to PCIMIA slot coming out? It's been ages! I really want to buy the middle ground MacBook Pro - I am so sick of my slow single 1.8 G5 (and I remember three years ago when that thing was faaast)

Any ideas on this dual-systems thing? Or is it vaporware?

Matte is definitely better for editing

How is the matte screen better for editing? I was thinking the glossy screen would be better and have deeper blacks?

Someone mentioned that an Apple rep said that a matte screen is better for color correction. Anyone else agree?

That was me. The Apple rep told me that the glossy is better for watching movies but as far as correcting color the matte is better. This is from the apple site:

"Finishing coat
MacBook Pro offers an antiglare widescreen display that’s perfect for color-minded professionals. For a more immersive viewing experience, you can configure MacBook Pro with a glossy finish. This gives everything you see a richer, more saturated feel."

I would stick with the matte but that is me. The issue with glare on the glossy screen alone is enough for me to go with the matte finish. Please understand me though, both are nice but my preference is the matte.

I'm going to the Apple Store tonight...gotta sell my 1.83Ghz MacBook now...

I don't think they have them in stock yet. It sys shipping in 3-4 days on the apple site (I could be wrong). I would play it safe and call to check on their availability.

Love that they incorporated a fw800 port.

FW800 is back!!!

Why is FW800 so important?

First, there is only one firewire bus.

Second, an EC/34 adapter would provide FW800.

Third, unless you are capturing to FCP and the FW800 bus, it really doesn't matter. 720/24 runs only about 5.6 MB/s.

You mean to tell me that this is different than my brand new 2.16 Core Duo i picked up last week?

If so this is getting nuts. THey haven't even been able to figure out how to get the lap temperature down below 200 degrees on the current ones. :)

everyone doing DDR will benefit, doing this with the 17", HVX via FW400, G-Raid via FW800 - works like a charm in 1080p...
I wouldn´t trust the USB ports for this and adding an EC/34 adapter surely works, but why complain if you now don´t need to?
Now I can get the PCcard adapter to offload my B-Cam`s P2 and run my primary HVX via the FW800 port... no changing adapter cards, nice...
Editing with eg a G-Raid and a MBP via FW800 will also handle more data...
I just wish they would add eSATA...

insanityfw-

LOL These are definitley different.

I hope the heat issue has been solved in these core 2 duo's..... That is the only thing that has me on reserve..

i believe they do, my understanding is that the C2Duo runs cooler... that's part of the reason i think Apple felt the need to put these out ASAP.

i can't wait to get mine, first things first; sell my dual 1.8 G5!!!!
