I still love the man at the end.

I'm glad you liked him ...I ( WE) felt Mikes scene was the finishing touch to this short .

He was perfect for this part .

I originally wrote these characters as an accident waiting to happen. In fact I took alot of pleasure in giving it to the Paul character every chance I had.I even apoligized to Rob at one point because I felt guilty for tearing up his character so much, as he had to play him.

And certain viewers have convinced me to keep it that way. They know who they are. Others can still look at the manipulation if they chose, but officially these guys are just bungling crooks.

This short was never about winning the prize and never intended to make a dime.
So on behalf of the fans that this has picked up throughout this fest, you were right all along, I'm going to make it official and DAMN the votes.

ITS A COMEDY.
You get it or you don't.

arielman, CONGRATULATIONS on your film! You did some really nice work. Especially those VFX!!!

Best of luck to you.

I've had a blast with this fest!

This will be my final comments in this thread so thank you all for visiting and good luck in the fest. Arielman will still be around ofcourse. I have copied the critisms I've recieved into a word doc and will be using these as a refernce and guideline as I spend the winter months re-editing this short. There is alot of unused footage.
I have learned more than I thought I would have and look at this experience and being a totally positive one. Maybe when I get this redone, I hope to contact a few of you to get some private critisim and see if I'm on the right track.
When that is done, I will return to programming (my passion) and cg
and feel I will to better be able to implement cg through what
I have learned here.
Thanks to all and good luck. -gordo.

Ok ive watched it enough.... i think i am starting to "get it" .... Heheh.... it does have a certain awesomeness... :)

Arielman and Raptor. Finally reviewing this. Watched it a few times. It was a hit at our wrap party.

This film is pretty sublime. We could almost build a profile of your personalities after watching it. We kept asking how you came up with this stuff.

There was a lot of funny imagery and dialogue:
Running around the campsite like a videogame
Why'd you shoot me
Jumping 20 feet toward the guy
The voice of the guy with the mustache
Pulling down the tree chains
Throwing leaves in the face
The tree talking
The tree EXPLODING
The last scene

And probably more. I don't get this movie really. At least not the plot. But my buddies and I really enjoyed it.

How'd you get that old man? Was he ad-libbing? Who was he?

I'd like to see more of your stuff. What else have you done?

Take care.

Just finally getting the time to copy the notes I compiled in a Word doc while watching the shorts:

I didn’t really get this one, but it sure was FUN in spots! I think my favorite line/part was “I thought you were-“ “Dead? I am dead” I dunno … something about the timing of the delivery, the voice FX, etc. … just made it a cool spot. Also thought some of the FX and editing in here was pro. If ALL of the film lived up to some of the exceptional spots, it would have been REALLY tight … however the acting for the most part was fairly week, especially when the guy is tied up between the two trees … I think he actually smiled at one spot while delivering his lines. Which I’m guessing you guys just had a good time making this, and to me it shows. It was a fun film to watch. J Just didn’t necessarily get the entire story/ending.

CINEMATOGRAPHY:

There were a bunch of good shots in here, and the quality of the video was nicely done. You did a good job of keeping everything look clean and clear, especially since a lot of times shooting outside can be a hassle.

EDITING:

The editing was nicely done. Good choice of cuts and keeping up with the pace of the story. The gun shots looked very good.

SOUND:

A very good mix of dialogue, background noise and soundtrack. The quality sounded really nice and it was good to be able to hear things such as the newspaper being turned or branches being pushed that some people forget help keep everything real as if the viewer was there.

SCORE:

The soundtrack was good, and a nice touch to the film. No complaints here.

SCREENPLAY:

I'm not sure if I completely understood this, but I still found it entertaining. I was a little confused by some of it, but it was still fun and interesting to watch.

ACTING:

Not bad, but not great. The ending was what really stood out to me. It just seemed as if the actors were having a normal conversation and pretty bored. There didn't seem to be too much emotion especially when the guy was tied up in the tree and fighting. Their performances didn't exactly sell it for me.

Overall, this was a fun and interesting film to watch. The dead guys voice made me laugh a few times because it was so deep, and the acting wasn't the best, but this film still had some great audio and good cinematography.

Thanks for the comments.

Trevor (the guy tied to the tree) is a pretty good actor But it was us who didn't get the very best from him...and that is our fault .
When Gord wrote this the story it made sense but he then realized he had to cut it down below the 6 min mark .
Mr Dragon is the Boss and he hires people to rob banks etc for him .
He then gets them to go to his place to hold up for a few days . While there his pet trees take over and thats that , he takes home the money . (see the shoe tree as they have the victims shoes sort of like a souvenir..)
The ending has him talking to his PET TREES .

If you listen you'll him say ..Have I got a treat for you and laughter ..re-the next victim hehehe.
Thanks guys for comments .
