1k Bubble Girl video up

I'd be really flattered and totally devastated if I was the guy who's comments kept Jim from posting more footage. I'll keep my comments completely free from analytical content and suggestion from here forward.

Over... maybe my reply was a little harsh. If so, sorry. But to expect us to get this far in 9 months and then tell us we need to spend the same attention to shooting and presentation as we are on camera building just rubbed me the wrong way. We have set up a camera team. And we are opening ourselves up to show you the process. These images have no dead pixel correction. Should we have held them back until we enabled that feature? I guess I'm asking you to be a bit patient through the process. We either present as we go or wait until we are done.

Jim

Totally agree with you Jim! I cant recognise one single company that shows this much of work in progress on a camera. This is so fun to watch everyday. Ceep up the good work! How about writing a book about the camera development?

Hello all! Very cool footage, and I must say I think the film/HD/weirdness is just in terms of how one wants to approach the color correction. For instance, I adjusted it a little bit, and look at it now:

(sorry for the interlacing, I'm working on a non-Quicktime-native setup here)

From just this footage, I can tell it looks gorgeous. Just need to get that $17k and I'm there.

Jim, as someone who has put down quite a bit of money (for me anyways) on the camera and lenses, these little tastes you give us reassure me everytime that I have made the right decision.

I'm lovin' it.

Thanks Jim and the Red team for sharing development test footage.
I think it is fantastic to make business this way! Really a cool way of thinking!!

For my part I am very happy to access this footage, and if you do not want to see it, why download it. Just wait a few months and you will have the definitive images. Then it will the time to decide if you want buy it or not.

Carry on Red Team,
May the force be with you...

And Thanks Mikko, for me, your link is really faster than the torrent one. 40% done, I will try to key it as soon as I get it...

I love seeing the early footage and am very excited about the camera. I think it would be helpful for Red to acknowledge issues of the footage as they post it (dead pixels not corrected, sharpening not applied, etc.) and that these issues will be solved during development.

Building a camera that is leaps ahead of existing cameras (from companies that have been around for ages) and to do it in such a short period of time is just unbelievable. The speed of this development is amazing and I'm sure 99% of us recognize this. You promised footage and delivered. Anyone who expects you to move any faster has really unrealisctic expectations.

Ok, The girl´s face looks terrifing.

Now, the black background on the left of the screen. I see a lot of digital noise and pattern banding. WHY? i dont like that. That does not come from the QT compression.

Your MJPEG codec? Your player?

I'm not sure what to make of the bubble gum, it does show a lot of detail when it pops. But I love the slight DOF around the girl, it's especially visible with her left earring [for those who can't tell right from left, it would be your viewing right :)].

The real marvel is in the skin detail, looking closely you could practically pick out every pore and crevice on her skin, it's just crystal clear! I can't wait for that outdoors footage, but I'll take what I can get in the meantime.

I probably don't need to say this, but there's been some comments elsewhere about the 1080p clips and how they can easily be reproduced by an HVX200, Cinealta, or any other HDV camera. I don't get these people, they obviously don't understand what the big deal is. Sure, you could reproduce what we've been seeing easily on an HVX200 or some other camera currently available. However, if you simply download the 4K still of our buddy Jarred and the pumpkin (which by the way Jarred, it really looks like you're enjoying yourself with the chainsaw!), and then compare that still with a still from any of those other cameras and you can see for yourself what all those other cameras can't do.... 4K.

I hear ya on that one Jack. For anyone who thinks the current crop of 1080p cameras than can match RED's current samples, please show us a 1080p "STILL" that is as detailed as RED's offering. I am not expecting a 4k still of course. Just show us a frame grab at 1920x1080 resolution. Until the RED, I have never seen anything as detailed...so detailed it looks like a still from a Canon Digital SLR.

I know mac. Why didn't they have an all white background and some boobies. Now, that would have been sweet :) I don't know what you're smokin' muchacho, but can I have some ? (kidding) Maybe try adjusting your monitor and color profile, or play it in VLC player ? I'm really happy with the shot, even if it is only the first step...

As to the vote on whether RED shouldn't show test footage until they are near production ? (like all the other big camera companies ?) I vote NO. Although, I really want to see a variety of test footage (especially exteriors, motion, deep DOF), as soon as possible, I can exhibit some patience.

We're seeing steps in testing that no other company has shared before (as far as I'm aware) with a non-characterized sensor, pixel correction etc...Yup, they're glamour shots, but they're garage glamour shots, if that makes sense. I hope Overland keeps chiming in, though. His POV can be useful.

I'd rather see the process RED team, even if it's like watching your prize pony warm up on the track, while you want to reeeaaally see what it can do out on the track

I'm gettin' better at this patience thing too.

are you sure? maybe not.. before posting it would be better to try another player, correct?

VLC for example.. and after you can see from where is coming all what you've been watching..

Umm.. If you can see somethign on one play and not in another .. then it's there!
If one player shows noise (whcih I concure, it does) and nother doens't. Then there is noise.
Not seeing noise doens't mean there isn't any. But seeing noise means that there is some. You can't see something that isn't.

- Mikko

right mikko but the point is also the girl face has some noise artifacts.. compression? whatever.. me thinks it's the QT player..

edit
or me want to think.. however, mr jannard or the red team should/can explain..

If theres any artifact that ive noticed, It would be because of the downrezzing, perhaps it wasnt bicubic or bilinear or something or other.

Other than that, give me terrifying anyday.
