OCT-18 mount from the RED launch?

Most of the future RED buyers will buy the zoom lens but until its delivery we need to play with any other feasible resource. Is there any possibility to add a OCT-18 mount for real cheap russian old lenses?

Jim has stated that Nikon and Canon lens mounts will come first. My guess is that any others will likely come from a third party. I think that the RED team is so swamped with a million issues that making additional specialty lens mounts (outside of nikon and canon) may be low on their priority list from now until the camera ships.

If you want to play with some 35mm lenses when the camera ships.. your best bet would be to pick up used Nikon or Canon lenses. But who knows..someone may build that "oct-18" that you are asking about.

The question is not properly to play with. We need for a good solution until the zoom delivery. The 300mm lens won't be an alternative to the zoom lens, of course. The Nikon and Canon manual lenses mounts will be a good help but the breath problem will carry on. I just want to find a viable option not later than the RED launch. Afterwards, we'll have the RED lenses offer. But until then?

Next March/April we should spend $17,500 and this investment can't be stopped waiting for the RED lenses launch. For some the rental alternative will be an option, for the most won't be.

"We need for a good solution until the zoom delivery." There are a plethora of very good used solutions but cine lenses will always cost more than still lenses. What price point and features are you expecting for a "good solution" ? It seems like you are expecting cine featured lenses at still lens prices.

I plan on using a s16mm zoom (to shoot 2k windowed) to hold me over until the RED lens zoom ships.

Won't the Russian lenses still have the breathing problem you mentioned?

I guess the reality is that, in order to get a good cine zoom for 4k shooting, its going to cost some significant cash.

For a 6-9 months temporary alternative what do you expect?

It is a possibility but I'd like to use the S35mm right out the box. And if I have the still photography lenses option (aside the breath problem), I wouldn't like less than the S35mm coverage.

Good question but I don't think so if they are for motion picture use...

$9,500 -- late 2007, but the point is what will it be possible to get before? And how much?

I expect the cine lenses are going to cost alot of money anyway you look at it until the RED zoom comes out. that is why I asked what your price point expectations are. Do you want something under 1,000?

A decent used zoom (depending on your definition of decent) will cost 2,000 and up. Check here for 35mm zoom options (though Evinsky in another thread stated that getting lenses form visual products is sometimes hit or miss):

I already knew it, as well, the Evin comments but thanks anyway.

That Angenieux 20-120mm T2.9 would be interesting if...I wouldn't guess it would be a hit. Regarding its price/value ratio, obviously.

Breathing in lenses only occurs when changing focus during a shot, right? Well, then don't do it! Seriously, stage the action so you don't have to be rack-focusing all the time, and you'll be set with 35mm still lenses. A little breathing never hurt anyone...

Jaime,

My commitment is also for education purposes. It's difficult to handle with this kind of hassles. But for sure, for other kind of indie work, that won't be a major problem. The indie moviemakers are used to deal with these sort of restrictions.

Cheers
