Horrorfest 2006 Cliche's

- sinks/washing off (true blood needs washing but in some cases it was not needed)

- phones/clocks

- piano in music...god....enough with that :)

- audio levels going bananas can you hear me now THAT I AM F*** YELLLINGNNGNGNGNFNSKGSFNKG

- red blood, yellow blood, orange blood, purple blood....havent seen some green blood...maybe it was in sci-fest...

- abrupt endings....ok a sudden ending to leave you wondering is nice, it helps you think which is always a good think and pro's do it...but I m starting to think people mistook Irrelevant endings for Sudden endings....I saw some endings where they didnt leave me wondering what had happened...I was just left wondering if the clip was corrupted or they had a short-circuit of some sort....

People who seem like they're trying to make The Ring 84. Can we get rid of the overly stylized crap already? It's starting to feel like an arthouse (or outhouse) in here.

a good copy is an art in itself, the bad thing is when they try to copy things and do it badly..... i m saying this in direct connection to Darkline's movie Halfway that has a Ring-style in it but you have to be blind not to call it a very well planned and executed movie

so i dont care if you give me 100 ring versions as long as i see some genuine stuff in there and real efforts and attention to detail and creativity....

Too many SAW/HOSTEL ripoffs have turned me off

Too many 'Serial Killer' killing girls ... (And not in a good Halloween type way)

Too many shorts taking place 'in the apartment' -

Aye, I noticed that too. It becomes a tad repetitive to watch...

for the first one, I guess it goes with the age we re living in...if you did this 20 years ago, everybody would be looking for a camp and 10 teenages to massacre...

for the second one I guess people use their houses coz its cheap and makes it easier to film, not much moving around and setting up outside...its not a bad thing....if you play it right

I had no choice since I'm not mobil enough to go else where and shoot. The kids were complaining as is was with me making them carry stuff to the first floor....in the elevator. :P Damn spoiled kids.

Well, I think 5B can "get away" with it being in an apartment, as the whole story hinges upon that fact. The story is written specifically for this location
It is different when the apartment is simply chosen as a location 'cause it was convenient/easy.

thanks versus.

I dont think (or hope) he was refering to my film as the only resemblence to The Ring is that mine has a TV in it! It certainly has nothing to do with a curse, a ghost in the TV or a girl with long black hair :-)

The bottom line is we're all borrowing from whatever has come before. I cant say I've seen an original entry that hasnt been influenced by something or other. Mine included. Borrowing from more than one source and creating something your own is different...

I have seen all sorts of influences,Aliens, candyman, the ring, Hostel, Saw, 28 Days Later, hitchcock, The Hills have eyes, and think of all the styles we're all nicking too from other directors... and not just visually, all the sound we're using and how that's all come down the chain.... Ultimately it's irrelevant. Its how you use those elements that make it interesting. After all we're working in 'horror' and its full of cliches and some are expected and anticipated.

Personally Im a bit tired of flashbacks used to give backstory to an audience. It's commonly used. But again there are exceptions where it is used to better effect.
