VersuS, I particularly appreciated your review, whether or not Movie Master recognizes the value of receiving thoughtful and sincere notes. My thanks to you for the observations. I learn much from the critiques of the various films (thankyou Brandon, Charli, Kholil and others who take a lot of time and thought to give honest assessments).

Perhaps MM is merely attempting to stay in character, but I, for one, would hope he reveals himself to have a bit more substance than this persona (which, to me, comes across as a 19-year old playing with a camcorder rather than somebody serious about cinematography and filmmaking).

i am afraid to give honest assesments on any of the movies in general.

but you inspire me VersuS.

Movie Master,

I am concerned that you may run into some trouble if the authorities view your film.

Before you had your actors cut their fingers, did you train them properly on the hazards of bloodborne pathogens, and have them watch the federally mandated Occupational Safety and Health Administration video?

If not, you may be opening yourself up to a lawsuit or other legal or monetary penalties.

Loved the poltergeist tupperware throwing business.

Kisses

The Awakening

Script
Pretty basic simple storyline here. I do like the introduction of the made up game with the jewel and blood and stuff. And I like the ending as well.

Acting
Surprisingly all of your actors were quite natural! They just seemed like a group of ordinary friends hanging out for an afternoon. Some of the lines seemed a bit forced, but this is probably their first time out.

Cinematography

Your cinematography wasn’t very good, there were a few cool shots, one that comes to mind is the shot of the girl trying to open the door and it was locked. Focus on framing, and use a tripod, some of it felt to handheld.

Editing
Some of the editing jumped out at me. From when she goes to get the knife to when they cut their fingers, it jumped weird there. Also, when they are confronted with the demon/satan, some of the editing there needed tightening up.

Score
Pretty synthy score, but in parts it worked pretty well.

Overall Impressions
Well, I take it this is your first film. Not bad for a first. Some elements of it are a LOT better than my first film. Keep shooting, and work on the craft. You are on dvxuser which is a wealth of information on EVERYTHING technical about filmmaking. Go into the other forums, ask questions, test things out, learn how to be great technically, then apply it to your creative ideas! Thanks for the fun of your marketing  Good to have you a part of this!

dammit movie master! You really did open up the gates!

I enjoyed it. I agree with brandon about the possiblity of the cinematography being better...though some of the handheld shots made it scarier. The sound effects were kinda over the top...but I like that. It was very 80's special effects feeling...which is cool

It wasnt the best film ever...but it was very enjoyable to watch.

I don't have much to say that hasn't been said, but in addition to everything else, your sound levels needed work. I had to turn up the speakers to hear some stuff and then the screams nearly blew our my ears (and my speakers)

Also, too much clipping. I think you need to invest in a mic.

If You Guy's And Ladies Could Re-shoot My Movie What Changes Would You Make?

Yeah, but if we did that, then it wouldn't be a MOVIE MASTER FILM!

I don't think anybody can tell you how to shoot your movie, let alone re-shoot it. I'd just take the constructive feedback and arm yourself for your next film... which you are already working on, right? Right?

the tupperware scene made me laugh. Of all the things in the kitchen, Satan picks plastic to throw at them :)

ahhh movie master... what would we do with ya!!?

/j

In all honesty, only 1% of what I've seen actually scared me. Maybe I'm just immune to it since I did see the excorcist when I was only 3. I grew up with horror films and now I just laugh. However, there was alot of very pro produced films.
Now with Movie master, didn't do much to me. I wanted to at least freak out or jump abit, but nothing. I smiled more than I did be scared. I expected alot from you, especially you.. Overall, I do give you alot of credit and may hire you as my marketing guy. Duce!!!

yeah ok, you entertained me dood.
was it worth my immortal soul for? ... probably not.
but it was good fun.
I actually thought there were a lot of genuine acting beats with the girls, some stuff felt very natural and believable.
I also appreciate the lengths you went to to realize a devil, and the small details like smoke and all of that which can be such a fleeting moment on the screen and such a pain to organize, get together, get working for the shot, etc. And it does add a lot even though people don't usually explicilty notice it or give you kudos for it.

Anyway, thanks for the laughs and congrats on your movie. If its not your first I assume its very near it and I see lots of potential.

You have a lot of room to improve in sound and lights and camera movement, but you show some potential in each. I also encourage you to work with actors at some point, maybe a couple of projects down the road.

Best,

Jack

Well Movie Master, the gates really did open!

I thought this was a lot of fun. I have to say I was expecting the worst; but it actually delivered some of the goods. True, in a more humerous way, but throwing tupaware at the children was priceless.

I guess I would say, and its a very general comment, that if you cant afford to show something in a way it deserves (with realistic fx) then dont show it. Find a way to show something else or imply it. If you try to make Terminator on $20, chances are you'll make something people find funny, or at least the vfx will pull them out of the atmosphere..... this will of course change over time as you get more accomplished at these things.

But it was real fun and you must keep making films! Certainaly one of the more fun movies to watch and at no point was I bored.

Dude, lemme tell you this. Your film has, that X factor. the stuff that Cult classic films are made of. Sooooo Over the top, but low tech.... and thats OK!!!!! cause it makes it so enjoyable.

Too bad there isnt a "cool factor" voting column. you would DEFINITLY get a 10 fro mme!!!!

I LOVE the awakening!!!! SAtan in the end was AWESOME!!!! Your film was by FAR more than a sum of its parts.

you should get a prize for good marketing, and most "awesome" movie. maybe not technichally the best, but one i enjoyed more than almost all the rest!01:21 AM TimurCivan

thanks
