Firewire Monitoring

What outputs will we be able to record compressed RAW to?

Will it be possible to output ala DVRack through the Firewire port?

I would love to have a super simple PC application that would output a compressed 2k stream to a PC connected through a firewire 400/800 port or even USB2. You could also offer all of the camera UI on this viewport and the user could use a mouse or touch screen to interface.

I guess another question that crops up along these lines is: can the red output more than one resolution simultaneously?

Outputs to hard drive (RED DRIVE) or flash memory (RED RAM).

There is no firewire port. There is no need for a DV rack as you've got all the scopes and waveforms and everything in camera.

PC monitoring / recording solutions

As Graeme mentioned, there is no need for an external P.C based monitoring and recording solution - unlike existing cameras the RED ONE has very advanced video monitoring tools.

Nonetheless, we do support optional 802.11 wireless communication, so if anyone writes a P.C/MAC based remote controller application, what was suggested could in theory be achieved.

As for multiple video outputs, 1280 x 720p over HDMI and HDSDI are always available irrespective of what is being recorded to the Digital Magazine.

Stuart,

"... optional 802.11 wireless ..."

Please clarify. Will this be internal to the camera, or an external
box connected through one of the standard I/Os?

What is the API or other interface that 3rd parties can use to control
the camera?

And, is there any chance this interface could eventually support
a HTML based UI (see the thread "UI for the camera itself").

I believe it was hinted at that you could plug in an 802.11g wireless SD card in one of the two(?) SD card slots on the camera. I've no doubt Stuart will be able to clarify better.

Presumably 802.11n by the time RED ONE ships. At 180Mb/s that would be almost fast enough for real-time REDCODE RAW at 27MB/s.

Will the RED RAM flash memory be swappable like the HVX's P2 card? Or is it hardwired to the camera (i.e., you have to take the camera with you to dump footage)?

At some point I think Jim mentioned that the cover seen on this picture was the Flash slot.

I don't know if this is still so on the current design....but if it is it would suggest that they will implment replaceble flash cards.

Flash and wireless

Usual cavet - in development - subject to change ...

RED ONE's internal flash memory module is ejectable, so from an operational point of view you could think of it as a very large capacity and also physically bigger version of a P2 card.

As RED ONE offeres USB and SD card interfaces, wireless can be provided by off-the-shelf transcievers, so we can avoid getting locked into specific implimentation standards. Which means we can be 802.11a, or n or whatever comes along in the future.

No comment on protocols or .html menus etc at this stage. More later...
