I.m sure this is an easy question - FCP

Hey guys, I just shot with the HVX for the first time, I don.t have a manual or anything [it was for a class shoot] but now I.ve got the footage loaded into FCP via Input-->Panasonic P2 --- My question is that whenever I drop a clip onto the timeline I have to render it...I changed the settings to 720/24p [I shot in 720 24pN does that make a difference] and I changed the timeline to 23.98 -- I take it that.s what I.m supposed to do, but still I have to render? What am I missing?

Thanks,
Mark.

One more queer thing I note is that in the bin for my clips, it says that they are 23.98fps but that the compressor is DVCPRO HD 720p60...is that normal/correct?

To be sure you got all settings correct try an easy setup:

- Choose Final cut Pro > Easy Setup... from the menu bar.

- Select the DVCPRO HD 720p24 preset.

- Make a new sequence and open it.

DVCPRO HD 720p60 is the codec used.
Regardless what framerate you shoot in at 720p, The Hvx will always compress each frame with the same codec. In FCP that 720p codec is called DVCPRO HD 720p60.

Figured it out...I had imported the clips before I changed the setup, so I just had to reimport in a 720p setup. Thanks.

Mark.

You don't have to re-import. You can delete your Sequence, use Easy Setup, then make a new Seqeunce. Problem is you can't really change the Sequence settings when there's material in it, otherwise, it distorts the already placed clips and still has to render them.

You can also just remove all your clips from the Sequence, change it's settings, then drop everything back into it.
