Battery Mount Warranty Issue

I've posted this several times with no response from the powers that be, ie Jan.

For those of us with early models of the HVX200 with the poorly designed battery mounts, there remains an issue.

If we are careful, and our warranty runs out, and the mounts break, will Panasonic cover it beyond the warranty?

Otherwise, should we just use the Panasonic normally, and hope they do break so that Panasonic will replace within warranty.

It seems that if you are careful for a year, you are out of luck if something happens afterwards.

If this is a design defect as Panasonic has acknowleged, can those of us get some direction on how post warranty repairs for this issue will be handled.

Thanks

Very good point... since it is a flaw, I would hope they would cover it. If they plan not to, then there will be a bunch "accidentally" break in the 11th month of warranty.

ash =o)

I can't speak for Panasonic or what they plan to do, but if the tabs are broken, they will cover it under warranty, Jan has already stated that. But if they aren't broken, I would think that it would be considered Preventive Maintenance and wouldn't be covered. But this case may be a bit different, we would have to wait and see what Panasonic has decided to do.

Best regards,

Andrew Hoffman

It's weird to think, "Jeez, I really hope my camera battery mounts break really soon!"
Smells of class action...

So it would be better to break them before warranty runs out :Drogar-Shock(DBG):

Anders:

That's my point.

If they are a design defect, then warranty should not control when the break and whether Panasonic will replace without cost.

I'm a little mystified why no one from Panasonic will weigh in.

This is a legitimate issue to many of us.

Have you tried just sending a private message?

Actually, I've tried to locate Jan's email address, but cannot.

Nor have I received a private message from her.

This is a legitimate concern. Not certain why a private message is necesary if it affects more than one person.

best wishes

Well, the point is, if what you're trying isn't working, you have to try something else. You said you've asked repeatedly and not gotten an answer. So it looks like it's time to try something else.

Jan's e-mail has been posted before; it's at us.panasonic.com and it's crittendenj.

Barry:

If you graciously e mail me Jan's e mail address, I would kindly email her.

Or perhaps Jan could e mail me at:

pixelcraft at comcast.net

and then I won't bang my head against the wall anymore.

Sounds like a solution.

Jan or Barry?

I just PM'd Jan and she advised me to send my cam in for repair. She expressed her concern and said that Panasonic Service would take care of me! Thanks for the tip Barry. Oh, BTW Your book is amazing.

Thanks again!

Yes, but is that UNDER warranty or NOT ? How about cameras purchase in JAPAN vs USA ? Still not clear on this point. . .

If the camera is not one intended for sale in the US, Panasonic USA won't pay for repairs that would otherwise be covered under warranty.

Why not, especially if it is a product defect ? If I purchased in in Japan, its covered under warranty in Japan. Its the same camera, only WHERE you send it in under warranty not IF it is covered under warranty. Tabs still break due to product defect even outside the US. . .

Because Panasonic Japan and Panasonic USA are separate entities and serve different markets. Part of the income from every sale goes towards providing support and service for the product in the market it is sold in.

When you buy a product that was intended for sale in another market and doesn't carry an international warranty, you take a risk, and it is up to you to decide whether the potential savings are worth it.

No I got that but a product problem is a product problem - its the same camera, and Panasonic is a world leader in electronics. We have one USA one and one Japanese one, I would expect a company like Panasonic to admit to faulty tabs and be willing to fix them OUTSIDE of warranty period at no charge. Like others have said, I dont want to wish for my tabs to break NOW just since its under warranty. This tab issue is, unfortuanetly, not typical of a high quality Panasonic product.
