I have shake 4.1 but just bought it knowing id need to use it eventually, i have no clue how to use it so i cant really help ya there.

You spent $3000 on software you have no clue how to use? Thats almost 2x as much as your iMac.

The Gnomon Workshop makes training DVDs for Shake. I haven't viewed them, but I own many of their Maya training DVDs, and they are very detailed.

I would buy them in a heartbeat if I owned Shake. I would own Shake in a heartbeat if I owned a Mac. But, I don't :)

still.... buying a $500 app you have zero clue how to use is kinda.... well.... a waste perhaps?

unless you bought it for your buddy or partner who is a compositing/animation dude?

perhaps you feel OBLIGATED to learn it now that you have bought it.... I did the same with motion/soundtrack/dvdsp (everything in FC studio besides FCP)

anyways..... you should learn it cuz its a sick app and now its durty cheap

Ya, its a business thing, and having it will force me to hunker down and learn to use it.

David, whatever benchmark you run, just let me know, ill do the same exact thing on the iMac so we can have a comparison.

O yea, a couple of things to add:

This computer is amazing beyond belief but i have noticed one thing that made me a little upset.

You cant watch DVD's from other regions! Even if you use MPlayerosx or VLC. Not to mention that I cant even go around it by using handbrake. My roommate is from wales and I wanted to watch some of his region 2's. So i guess apple got wise to this and made dvds COMPLETELY unusable if they are not region 1.

But on the flipside, this computer is faster than anything ive ever been on. Watching HiDEF trailers on it is pretty impressive!

ya, ive been watching 1080p HD Trailers from quicktime.com and being able to actually see every pixel in the trailers is awesome! One of my buddies came over and said, you paid 2k for a monitor? And he asked how is it running if the Macbook Pro is over in the other side of the living room, then i showed him the whole thing and he was pretty impressed.

You made a good choice on the 24in man, I actually ordered one and it arrived a couple days ago. I printed out my return labels and sent it packing to get a MacPro instead. I never spend this much money so I figured ide get future security with the MacPro. It is an awesome machine though, will do just dandy for you.

-Kyle, who can't wait for his MacPro grrr....:/

ummm, shake is only $499.. about 1/4 the price of the imac
Holy @%$# !!!

3 months ago the software was $3000. Now they've released the "Universal" version and dropped the price to $500?!?!?!? That is freaking unbelievable. (I notice it is still $5000 if you want the Linux version). I feel SOOOOO sorry for all of the people that recently bought Shake for $3000. Wow, Shake at only $500? Thats it, I am buying a Mac to go along with (but not replace) my Windows Machines.

Shake...$500!!! I still can't believe it. I almost thought I was dreaming when I checked the Apple page and it said $500. I...I...I just can't believe it. When I first used Shake (in school) it was $10,000. Now I can own it for $500.

This has made my month. Credit card time, baby.

(by the way, I still can't believe it)
:) :) :) :) :)

Darn. That DVD-Region thingy is gonna kill me. I travel quite a bit... :(

I am just hoping that someone will come up with a way to get around it.

haha, handbrake now encodes at like 65fps

i dont have any of region DVDs to test it out, on my Macbook Pro though it lets me change the region like 6 times if i want....the last off region DVD i used in it was Juon 2.

damn man this thing is a breeze to edit on. How do you like yours Cynic??

Even CS2 under Rosetta is fast. People in my apartment still talk about the screen real estate.

Mine came in today. I also got "Parallels Desktop". I haven't heard many people talk about this program. Maybe it's just because I haven't been paying attention. But, it seems pretty cool. Shake is still...well, Shake. I haven't used the program since the last Windows version, which was 2.5. I am surprised that it looks almost the exact same. Apple didn't put the pretty, glossy, "Apple-look" on the program after they bought it from Nothing Real. I guess they didn't want to ruin "the look" of the program for long time users.

2GB ram sticks are still pretty rare, and are a bad value at this point, so I got 2 x 1GB sticks for $200 at newegg.

Below you can see the size difference between a 30 in and a 24 in.

You owe me $50 for the advertisement :)

(by the way I am just kidding)

if it gets someone to actually click and post in my Horrorfest thread, id pay it :) It takes like 20 minutes for me to get bumped down like 15 spots

guys, helpful thread, since I shoot in 720pn, what do you think of the 17inch 2G imac as an alternative with fcp? I would like a better screen and video card but what the hay.
