Break-in...

Red Leader
There was a break-in at the RED offices last night. Everything they took was camera and camera file related. We will NOT be slowed up by this distraction, but we are offering a $50K reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those that did this.

Jim

That really sucks ! sorry to hear that. Corporate espionage ? I guess theother guys are truly scared.

Oh my goodness!!... What a shame!

My sincere thoughts and a word of comfort here. Crap people...

I hope you get well. For Christ's sake, this is our concern too. :dankk2: for your update.

Emanuel

EDIT -- Unfortunately, I can't help but I hope you find out who did it.

Hi Jim,

I will hope and pray that this was done by some run-of-the-mill criminals, and not people who came in looking for specific camera and information in your possession. I know you probably don't what to speculate here, but is there any chance that this might be industrial espionage?

Mike

There is no question all they came for was RED camera stuff. Help us find out who did this.

Jim

Industrial espionage yup... a smash and grab actually seems too overt and messy for your competition so you may want to call them up to see if anyone is contacting them. It seems like an amateur hour theft on spec with the hope of selling to Dalsa, Sony, Panavision, Thompson Grass Valley or some such.

At least it shows that some folks are taking you very seriously now... silver lining and all that.

I hope to god you find them and throw the book at them. I had my cameras stolen and it put me out of business for a while, needless to say quite a financial hardship.

You shi*n Use.
That is just crap. I've heard of corporate espionage but that is just blatant wrong. Don't give up guys we'll catch the bastards and do unspeakable things to them.

Holy crap... Jim... I think your pushing someones buttons. So they stole files as well? This totally reminds me of when some dumbass stole the source code for the Half-life videogame - tons of people helped in catching the guys in a matter of weeks. Best of luck catching them.

My condolences, Jim! Definetly a sign that you are sitting on something phenomenal, though!

Hope you find them. Shoot their mugshots in 4k and post them in the still gallery when you do!

Seriously, what did they really hope to achieve by doing this??

I'm not exactly up to speed with with corporate ethics in this industry at the moment, but surely the "competition" wouldn't have had anything to do with it. And if it's assumed then that it was someone trying to make a buck by selling it to them, would they want to touch it, or have anything to do with it?? Or are they going to try and make their own camera?

I just don't get it. Sure, they now have all this information, but they can't do anything with it, otherwise it'll immediately be traced back to them and then they're finished, or have I missed something?

Or maybe they have some other plan that I can't guess 'cause I don't think like them...

Well, this is very serious for so many reasons and at so many levels that I'm sure I'm not the only one who wishes he could help in catching whoever did this.

The possibility that the vast amounts of intellectual, physical and financial resources that the Red Team has expended could end up in the hands of real or possible competitors is sickening. I realize that it won't be easy for any corporate thief to come up with an imitation of a Red camera by simply stealing Red's trade secrets and selling it in most Western nations. In fact, it might prove to be a form of economic suicide for any of the big guys to get implicated with the theft of Red's trade secrets, since a verdict in Red's favor would result in billions of dollars in compensatory and punitive damages.

The main worry I have is that this plunder might end up in the hands of small companies in, say, china, where patent infringement is a serious problem and tough legal protection of trade secrets has yet to take root. I believe that the Red One and its successors will (with proper marketing) takeover the cinema market in most of the developing world few years from now. For this to happen, Red as a company should be allowed to recoup its investment by selling as many cameras as possible. But the sort of economic scalability that would lead to greater effciency and price reduction can only happen if corporate thievery doesn't undercut Red's full market potential.

Mike

If there is any good news here, we are "In development". They will not have the finished designs.

Jim

I think they are going to have a hard time selling the information to anyone, it is just too risky for a major corporation to buy it.

The sensor and the RedCode seem like they would stick out like sore thumbs if somebody copied the technology or used parts of it to make something else.

Horrible! :(
But if it is industrial espionage, and it sounds like it, then it is a sign that You doing things right (a bit too right for Your competitions taste)!

I hope Your technology is patent pending...
And that You can catch and nail those #¤¤%!! to the door!

Jim,

Were the police brought in for a serious investigation? Is there a chance any prints were left behind? Any clues? Were windows broken, or were locks picked? I am wondering how "experienced" the people were that did this. There is not a lot of profit to be made from these items at this time. Also other items were left. I worry that someone paid someone else to do this.. Most likely to get their hands on that chip.

This maybe a bit off topic, but in light of recent events one of the things I worry about when buying a Red camera is getting it stolen. I have worked and penny pinched too long to have some thug just run off with a 17.5k camera. I've heard that cell phones now have tracking systems that allow you to pinpoint where they are and there are systems out there such as low-jack for cars. Is it possible to add this as an extra feature to the camera for a fee? Yes, there is always the insurance option, but it is more satisfying having the cops catch the bastards that do this to you.

I hope you get the theives and bring them to justice!

this makes me completely sad and pissed off at the world. i'm sure the red team will be able to handle this very well, considering there is so much more that needs to be done, the jerks that stole the equipment will get a slap in the face once we find out what it really looks like!

Good luck Red team. If I was in California I'd help you guys out. I'll see if I can find some stuff out for you..hehe.
