MINI eSATA + USB 2.0 Aluminum Removable Drive Enclosure

I'm thinking of getting one of these and stocking up on 250gig drives for backing up my HD footage. Yay? Nay?

I was using a usb adapter with ata drives but I just fried the board on one of my drives. I acciidentally plugged the power connecter in upsidedown and the drived started smoking. I didn't think it would even let me plug it in upsidedown. It's ok I swapped out the board from another drive I didn't need...all is well. It's just that handling bare drives can ben risky. I'd rather keep them in the drive trays and swap them out that way when I need to.

That is basically the back-up procedure I've been touting for years. I have been using a Wiebetech Drive Dock and handling the bare drives and yes... there is a risk with bare drives. In fact, I destroyed a Hitachi 160 which was the backup drive for my G5 system drive. It is much safer to use an inexpensive enclosure, which ends up costing right around the same as the Drivedock. Buy those drives on loss-leaders. If you have a Fry's near you, this weekend Fry's has Seagate 750 parallel ATA for $289 and SATA for $309. That's a lot of MXF files and represents a very inexpensive back-up and archiving strategy.
