European 8GB P2 Price Drop 16 GB Must be close by

The price may be more than U.S. prices, but the fact that Ray saw a £235 ($438) drop is the promising part. I don't have the foggiest if £925 was the equivalent of a B&H place that suddenly lowered it to £690 or some joint that was just overcharging. But that would be really heartening if American retailers cut the price by $400.

Just orderd 2 x 8GB for 995 Euros excl. tax each today...
16GB would be cool, but we need them now and so far 30 min of continous recording were enough for our needs (yes, either dv50 or 720pn)

I think Steve has it right, the Euro price has dropped to the equivalent of what the US price is. They're still $1200 over here MSRP, according to the Panasonic website.

The 8 gig SD-HC cards is announced (Pretec) ... mass production starts in the last quarter of this year. So technically its possible to build a 32 G P2 card in +/- december?

I doubt that. At the very least, you might see a dual release. I think that they would still have a lot of testing to do, if the materials are made available to make a 32 gb card. That would be a while I would think. Just my own personal hunch, but I get the feeling that 16 gb cards are on the way in the next 3 months, maybe 4. I have nothing to base that on, just seems right to me ;)

Yeah, there are still 4 gigers being sold and used. Personally, I hope they release the 16gb soon just so the price of 4 gigs drops. I love the 4 gig since it's easy to back up to DVD and don't have any issue hot swapping (honestly, since untill recently two 4 gigs were cheaper than one 8 gig, who can't stand the hassle of just popping one card out and another in?)

I too hope the price on the 4 gig cards continue to drop... Would be great when they are down to like 400 bucks. I'd buy 3 more... so then I'd be able to shoot for almost an hour without dumping...

Now, if I had the cash though... Two 32 gig cards would be AWESOME!

Yeah, but if I got a 32, I'd have to split it up when archiving to DVD. I'd have to manually go into the video and audio folders and see which clips went to what and do that for each shot. Not too much of a hassle but still a bit of a pain. Besides, I kind of like managing footage in smaller amounts. Know where each 4 gigs worth of footage is is nice though 16 or 32 would get overwhelming (32 would be more than a full hour of tape). Honestly, I don't see the problem with 4 gigs. They're cheap, small, and easy to manage. If you can't pop out an old card and pop in another one then there is something wrong with you.

Yeah, and if you drop one over the rail while shooting that city skyscape from the boat you don't have to dive in after it (like you would with the 16's or 32's).

Archiving wont be a problem for the 32 gig's when they hit the market, 'cause blueray and HD DVD's will be around then and they hold about 50 gigs.
