More RED photos from the booth.. camera out of box.. best ones so far

I agree. I think the challenge for Red should be 'how SMALL can we possibly make the rails?' The rails do not seem to offer any lens support up front, so I don't think they need to be as long as the longest lens. I really think that a major selling point for the Indy user is Red's size.

wood and chrome

wood and chrome

an attachable handle on the top
grips Jim likes or dark wood - I have a unique idea on that .

I found a pic of a handle that can double as a massager. When you get a pain in your neck from carrying around a heavy camera on your shoulder all day, you can take the handle off and give youself a massage. How is that for a unique idea. (just joking, not serious.)

wood and chrome VS. matte black and carbon fiber

wood and chrome VS. matte black and carbon fiber

Some of the photos of RED are of a chrome model and some are of a model in matte black finish. I like D_and_Gs idea about wood handles, but just for the chrome model. I like carbon fiber for the matte black model. I hope RED comes in a choice of finishes. Lets have a poll. How many people want black w/ carbon fiber and how many want chrome w/ dark wood? Style is everything. RED has to look cool.

My main reservation about having so many configurations is that you'll need to hire another person in the camera department whose job it is to weild the screwdriver and to mind all the pieces. Granted that's not much different than what it is now, but ya know what I mean.

The issue with the rods IS the length out the back - too long and it just gets hard to work with on set, especially when working in tight spaces. I suppose you could disassemble it all, re-assemble, re-attach all the bits....hmm.

Obviously we have not done a very good job of showing how this all works and how easy it is to configure a hundred different ways. Screwdrivers not necessary. You don't have a clear picture of it... it is our fault. Watch our website for updates in a week.

We will also show another improvement to the body design- V29

Sorry. Jim

acrochordon, have you stopped taking your medication again...

Jim posted this pic over on dvinfo.net. Much cleaner.

I think we can all relax now, somewhat.

Edit: Speak of the devil...

Jim, the huge amount of support this camera has makes it clear that your audience will be very forgiving-- there's plenty of time before release to tweak designs, make pretty renders, and settle all doubts.

Please don't stop showing phototypes, it makes people feel that they're a part of something very special (which of course they are).

Wow, that looks insanely better!

But there is something pretty important that wais said in one of the recent threads. The back panel would be hard to see, if it remains hidden behind the battery/magazine plate. Either it stays in the back, and we move the batt and mag from there, or it has to go to the side (like in any other "normal" camera).

Good work with that render, it's what we all wanted to see!

Again... we have done a poor job of showing the possibilities. The battery/drive module can move (double-jointed) up and forward horizontal, or down and under horizontal. OR, the plate they are on can easily be removed and MOVED to the top of the camera or mounted anywhere on the cage (if you choose to use the cage). The combinations are limitless. We'll make a better presentation of all this if we can have a couple of weeks to detox from IBC.

Jim

I would like to know if there are allowances being made in design to shoulder mount the camera without the rails at all. Along the lines of an Aaton or SR.

If we don't end up offering a solution that fits your needs, we have created a hundred mounting points for any number of 3rd party accessories.

Jim

Thanks you Jim Jannard for a better photo.

Absolutely no need to apologise, what for? You and the whole red team are working your butt off trying to bring these guys a great camera.

Red is moving forward and improving all the time:thumbsup:

sorry if this has already been posted, but if you look closely at the website it looks like the red-gun may still be in the works:

I am so incredibly excited about this camera system. My only complaint is it won't be ready and tested and in our hands before we start shooting our feature in March.

And what's up with all the jerkoffs over at Cinematography.com? Their knee-jerk negativity is a real bummer.

It looks like someone got a new erector set.

The two hand grips make me laugh. No one is going to be doing long shoots if they have to hold both their arms out to shoot this camera all the time.

It's a design in progress. I understand that very clearly. What seems to be missing are some basics...like a viewfinder. Why do they have a couple of steering wheel hand-grips in the design but no viewfinder? Things like that tell me the designers priorities don't match up yet with those who will actually use the camera.

From what I see, this thing is going to be tripod bound. Not for realistic handheld work. That's OK. The world can always use another studio camera. Especially if it puts out as fine an image as advertised.

"No one is going to be doing long shoots if they have to hold both their arms out to shoot this camera all the time."

that's how it is done shooting 35mm camera's ...
when i shoot 16m i always end up with left hand holding support rod if i don't have 2 grips ...

Holy cow this thing is a beast! The new render from dvinfo looks awesome!

What is your total approximate projected weight for the rig seen in the picture that Jarred put up? Too soon to tell?

Big beast but nice to see it after all. But, where is LCD monitor or WF? Have to wait until final design, huh. Cant wait to see some pictures or video from RED1. Thanks for pictures!
