Matt Sconce- Stricken

You could almost buy a HVX with that... Course then it wouldn't be as much fun.

I know...the agony....... but I am hoping this movie has some legs to run toward funding and the funding will run to TWO Hvxs! Mwah haha! :Drogar-Evil(DBG):

Matt I bow to you!!! You are willing to go ALL THE WAY with theater rentals, and parties and all......

As for the project and audio / foley...I know!! though I dont do the sound mix/design in premiere, we do it with NUENDO

Hehe Thanks. I do the sound editing in Adobe Audition and then import to Premiere. Audition is mighty powerful :-) I will have to see what Nuendo is. That is the first I have heard of it. Good luck with your stuff!

I finally figured out noise removal in AE the correct way to still retain proper movement. So, now I am going through scene by scene removing the noise. It is leaving me with a really neat look.

Also, I have decided to sell my DVX100b and my two Sony Vx2100s and get an HVX.
Everything is coming along nicely with Stricken and I am excited to finish the noise removal soon and then it is just finalizing sound when the score comes back :-)

Nice sized budget, dude. Gotta spend money to make it all happen, though. How soon we talkin now? I didn't have time to surf the thread at all.

I think I am on Schedule for my October 31st release, but I am trying to get it done by the 1st to enter it for exhibition in Horror fest. It will be nice to get feedback to fix the final version

Whew! Still Noise reducing! I am doing tests on a 50 inch LCD TV. I am attempting to get a noise free image with miniDV which is incredibly hard. I think I will get a very smooth look though...we will see.

Using the adapter I am sure caused there to be more noise in the image. Can't wait to see the finished product. Any more news on music?

No info yet on the music, but I discovered my noise reduction only works when there is no camera movement in the shot. I will be selectively reducing noise now that I discovered that. The noise is minimal on my 50 inch LCD T.V. so hopefully there will not be a problem.

Rock On! I just figured out the noise reduction secret of life. It equals......Export to Raw AVI and the world is a pretty place! I was exporting from AE in Film Strip format and it was stretching the time of the clips by a few frames, creating jumpy clips. Now that I export RAW AVI, I can noise reduce anything and it comes out beautiful! I am quite happy! Time for more Noise reducing! Woohoo!

Nice Matt! I have some questions for ya regarding noise reduction as my first scene for Smuggler's was shot a tad underexposed, and I could use some noise reduction on it

Fire away! I am having quite a bit of success at it so I can hopefully help. :)

Enough of me talking about Noise reduction....Time for some samples! I will be posting some full res samples video of actual footage (remember that I am in here for ehibition only so it is okay) in a couple minutes! Stupidly, I left the Gain all the way up the day of the cemetery shooting so I had some hard shots to fix...but they are awesome now. Soon you will see.

So.....I was lame and left the gain on the highest preset by accident for the cemetery shoot...I must have bumped it. I needed to deal with a lot of noise in the images.

Here are some examples of the effect the Noise reduction is having. It gives a smoothed look, but I like it.

Temporal filtering isolates the parts of the scene that are static and kills the noise on those parts. The example clips have had temporal filtering done to them, as well as general Noise Reduction.

I am still learning a lot about noise reducing. Hope you liked the samples!

That noise reduction is umbelievable. I didn't know that was possible. Awesome job. Can't wait to see the final product.

Yep, here is the process for those of you wanting to do this. I like sharing!
Here ya go:

Noise Removal Tutorial:

Step one, Export from Premiere Pro 2.0 in Uncompressed Filmstrip format for After Effects. Step two. Import into After Effects. Drop into a 23.976 composition. Set the composition several frames beyond what your clip length is. Apply Remove Grain. Change the viewing mode to final output, instead of preview. Fiddle with the Noise reduction slider under the noise reduction settings. Try to get a mix between the most detail and the smooth picture. If there is a ton of noise in the background that just seems to not go away, bring the slider down to about .2 and then enable temporal filtering. Set it to 100% and bring motion sensitivity to .9. Observe the results and then play with the noise reduction slider again until you achieve the look you want. It will make much more minor of a difference when temporal filtering is one, but it does help.

Output as an Uncompressed Quicktime or AVI format. NOT as a filmstrip again. For some reason if you export as an uncompressed filmstrip, it stretches the clip and makes it stuttery.

I hope this little tutorial helped!
The first page has been updated to include it.
