Yes Red is Real. Images seen In all it's 4k Glory.

Very exciting

SO exciting that I finally jumped over the fence and am now apart of this revolution.. now where can I get the rest of that 20k?

I like the forward thinking, prezorg. :) One of the projects I've been working feverishly on recently is the creation of a RED-dedicated "core site" geared specifically for RED users! Of course, right now there aren't many people who could actually be called RED users, but that will be remedied quite soon! (Woo-hoo!) :)

Sites like DVInfo and DVXUser have been awesome from the community perspective, covering lots of different ground and offering lots of different avenues for discussion. I'm going to take that concept a step further and build some amazing resources around the discussion forum approach. I do want to clearly state that my new site does not intend to be a replacement or competition for these kinds of communities at all, but rather will be focused completely around RED - geared for the next generation of digital cinematographers and offering insight and collaboration centered soley around the RED platform. While there is no question that tools like the DVX and upcoming technologies like Sony's new XDCAM are still valid ones, RED represents a radically new way of thinking about a product and stands in a category all its own. RED is about taking bold risks and moving forward. I believe that the users who adopt and work with RED recognize and share in those attributes, and my goal is to create an online portal which mirrors the boundary-pushing approach that RED has had from day one. The site will have a more high-end and centered focus, and will showcase plenty of reference materials, featured writers, and examples and tutorials of RED in real-world practice. I plan to thoroughly catalog my experiences with RED, and provide an avenue for every other RED user the opportunity to do the same as well. With technology advancing in such amazing ways, it's a perfect time to share, learn, and grow together. And of course, a forum will be included as well. :)

Jarred has done amazing things with this site over the past few years and I think the community as a whole is one of the most wonderful online groups I have been fortunate to be a part of. There are so many here who are willing and eager to help, and at the same time there is a comforting lack of any kind of ego hierarchy whatsoever. I am hoping to carry that spirit forward in my new endeavor. RED may still be several months away, but the world of digital cinema is about to be rocked. Better buckle up!!

Well Haakon, this forum just happens to be solely dedicated to RED users. I consider it a site in its own that just happens to include HVX content as well.

Believe me, I love this forum and I think is a great place to get together to talk about everything that's coming with RED! (Haven't you noticed how much time I spend here?) :) DVInfo has a dedicated RED section as well, and that's a good resource too (though let's not forget that there are no RED users yet!). As I mentioned, what I am working on is not a replacement for DVXUser. There will be a forum, as there needs to be a place for content creators to be able to get together and collaborate, but that's essentially where the similarity ends. RED still has a good way to go, and I think things will be clearer as time goes by. All I can say is to hang in there, it will make more sense further down the road.

Poi Boy - It is actually quite simple...Haakon is in fact a cyborg. He needs no sleep whatsoever. In fact, his inspired work on The Faithful is simply the result of his abnormally advanced microprocessor calculating all the necessary lighting possibilities, ratios, light placement and focus and exposure values.....modern technology, it really is a digital world.

Does anyone have clues as to how the mysterium's image quality changes/adapts as frame rates go up and exposure needs shift accordingly?

So what's the deal with Mike at HD for indies? Why is he kissing everyone's butt with a formal apology all the sudden? He's a free site is he not? He can say what he wants.

Jay

IMO take what Mike has posted as you would read all on his site !! - IMO his apology is NOT kissing everyones buttalks - it a apology for the reasons he has stated ... lets not try to read other things into it ...

I believe Mike's original post was an honest one, yea he may have been a tad over-taken with excitement, but then again, he must have seen something magnificent in order to evoke such a speech!

I really want to hear Jarred's side of the viewing as well.

He works with those guys, he can't afford to piss everyone out. In fact, Nobody can.

Mikes a very great guy.. and is very strong about keeping his integrity.. He was very excited to see the red footage (As was I).. wrote purely from emotion and he got some slack over being so "optimistic".

I dont know if his apology was the right thing to do or not and as most of you know it probally isnt the route I would of taken, (that's probally why i have no friends) but i think he just wants to make sure nobody thinks is his playing favors, and we gotta respect him for that. I know i do.. and I support anything Mike says or does.

Mikes a good friend of mine and I know this was hard for him.. and you gotta understand the other camera companies arn't that keen on all this RED nonsense... thats just the way it works sometimes.. gotta love politics.

Regardless.. it doesnt change the fact that what happened at RED last week was historical... and thats what we all should be focused on. Im sure if any of you guys stood there and watched what me and Mike watched what was coming out of RED on that 4k monitor the words out of your mouths would be just as enthusiastic.

Mike will be fine and all those jackasses out there that are whinning will be fine as well.

Maybe even more so, since you guys were kinda reserved about it...:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Hi folks,

this is one of my first posts on the site. I usually just browse.. I have to say that I've become involved in film making over the last 2 years and RED is without a doubt in my eyes a true paradigm shift within the film industry. I say film industry because I truly believe that RED will spear head a change in the industry from film to digital cinema which along with the new channels of film distribution like the net will finally democratise an industry that has been dominated by people who had the money to shoot films (with 35mm) and those who had the dreams but could not realise those said dreams for lack of cash. I think RED is also a clear example of the world we now live in where technology is advancing at an incredible almost exponential rate and superceding previously expensive (and thus financially elitist) technology. 10 grand plasmas 4 years ago are now 1800$ etc..

As for RED, myself and my brother are thinking of investing in a RED camera next year, if we can pony up the dough (i think we can) and use it to launch our own priduction and rental house company.. So here goes...

Lastly not to deviate too much from the thread I read Mike's article on his site and from what I've read from this guy (he seems to be one of the most clued uppeople currently on the net when it comes to HD) I think he made a very valid point. Camera companies are going to lose a lot of business once RED enters the market and case in point? That's the reason why he had a verbal barrage from various companies (we know who they are) who only rent out to rental houses...

Which reminds me - where's your report Jarred???

It's a pity that Mike's apology is getting more attention then it's worth, IMHO. Earning a living in the industry means balancing competing agendas. If he felt the need to apologize, then so be it. Move on folks. I'm sure he's refining his communication protocol so it doesn't happen again.

The point is RED has shown 4K footage ! Trusted sources have seen it and said it rocks. Those who said Jim couldn't make a sensor, or get 4K images off of it were wrong (as expected, for me).Sure, there are huge hurdles ahead - codec, storage, tweaking the sensor etc... but the sensor won't be one of them.

It's funny, when you kind of look at it from the outside. Whenever paradigms, whether they be marketing, or image acquisition are smashed or boundaries pushed, there is an inevitable amount of miscommunication, and realignment of expectations. There is always a lag in that respect.

RED won't change the industry over night. But like a positive Tsunami (if it performs to specs), it will reach the shore sooner or later. Change is inevitable. I want to be behind the positive wave.

The industry will adapt. There will be more choice. Price will be within the range of small business. And there will be a lag time in all of that happening, especially with paradigms which have been in the industry for yonks...

RED # wish I was higher
