Yes, when you figure the budget angle slr lenses particularly manual Nikon slr lenses are very compelling. I would add that a good part of the price difference with cine lenses is the volume of production. Also keep in mind that still photography and high end digital photography is way beyond 4K.

Actually, current digital SLR (35mm style) is RIGHT AT 4k horizontal resolution.

D2x is what, apprx 4100x2700 ??

And yes, the 20 year old Nikkor glass STILL rocks on those cameras.

I disagree. Most still lenses (ok, PRO still lenses) are just as sharp, just as contrasty, just as clear, just as bright, and just as fast.

If not more so, as still photography is targeted to the prolonged examination of each single image in great detail, and every flaw stands out in the still print.

But they (still lenses) are intended for setting up a single shot, taking it SNAP, then setting up for another, etc.

The Cinema lenses are made for setting up one CONTINUOUS changing shot and getting it continously across the lapse of time.

They HANDLE better, TRACK FOCUS BETTER, they HOLD focus across a ZOOM, etc.

If you HAVE THE TIME to fart around with your nikkor glass until you get the shot, and you hit it dead on, you will not be giving up anything (worth worry about in the least) in the resulting image.

But for complicated shots, be prepared for lots of farting around until you hit it dead on.

Worth it? If you're on a limited budget, absolutely. If you have the budget, get cinema lenses and save everyone else the time on the set.
