Yes Red is Real. Images seen In all it's 4k Glory.

We are so motivated by these images... and getting this quality of image is what others said was impossible.

impossible never crossed my mind.. probable? you gotta admit it was a bit of a longshot. But something told me way back when that you guys had what it took to get there. And Im sure glad i felt that way, because this Red #10 reservation on my desk that i bought way back then on pure faith sure is looking good about now.

Very nice. Sounds like a very exciting day for the development team. I don't think the image quality was in doubt, anything aproaching 2k and over will blow peoples minds....Time is getting short, however for shipping a finished product in early 07.

However, I will be getting a reservation for a Red unit shortly and I will be at IBC to scope it out. Hopefully it will save me from from buying a HDX900 lol.

Keep up the good work gents! And don't forget that NLE support! (hear that, Steve??)

true somewhat.. but thats i think what impressed me and Mike so much... Detail through resolution was a big one, but the incredibly narrow depth of field (and the sexy roll off), the way it held the highlights, the smooth, even shifts inside each color space.. skintones.. accuracy.. in general just the non-video renditions of the frames is what got us.

Resolution was just the gravy.

Sweet. I've always wanted a vid cam that looked like super16mm (or better....)

You know in a couple years, some 18 year old will have this Red One as his first camera, and won't understand the amazement of older gits who were trying to shoot things with a Prehistoric Sony VX1000.

18 year old looking at footage. "I guess it looks okay. Can't we make it so it fits in my cell phone?"

I would LOVE to get a Red by the time I'm 18 in 4 years.

I agree though some kids wouldn't really care.

I was telling some of my friends that I was buying a $3,000 camcorder (DVX) and they said, "Oh for $3000 it should look better than what we see in the movie theatres right?" I said, "No, it'll look a good bit worse but still real good." "So why are you paying that much if its just going to suck?"

Tsk, tsk... such ignorant kids.

lol, if you get a RED in four years when you are 18, I will come and take it from you on general principle

Just joking ofcourse -- hope that works out for you.

Ahhhh I just can't wait to talk to all the bonehead film-buffs who doubted me and my confidence in Red.

T'will be a glorious day when the first footage comes in.

thanks for the info on the viewsonic jarred, did u got a chance to see how it was hooked? Wouldn't mind to peak into THEIR workflow!

txs!

I can't believe that Viewsonic LCD monitor packs all that res in 22"! If the images were that good in 4K I'm sure it truly looked like a window on reality...at least with 60p footage. I bet you could stick your nose right up to the screen and still couldn't discern the pixel grid.

Well, if this camera succeeds in its ambitions and we get roughly a Canon 5D image at up to 60p, I'm sure future film history courses will mark 2007 as the early death knell for motion picture film.

Potentially disruptive technology like this will certainly make the history books.

LOL, man, have times changed. When I was 18 I was working part-time for $5/hr and saved every penny for my greatest dream which at that time was just owning a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.

If I wanted a $17,500 RED camera, I would have had to work 5,800 hours ($3/hr after taxes) which at 20 hours per week would have taken me 290 years :D

Noway LOL ! but yes times have changed & kids now days have more cash i guess the hard work of parents pay for making their kids dreams come true.

So did you manage to get that dream lens finally or you still saving up for it LOL

My bad, my calculations were off. It's 290 weeks, not years, which equals 5.6 years. Hey maybe this kid can pull it off afterall! :D

YES! I finally did realize my dream. At first I was going to just settle for a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 but I decided to save for a few more years and get the real deal...a Canon 70-200 f/2.8L. Of course, right after I buy it, they release the IS version. Grrrrr

Awsome News, I Just can't wait to see it. And I still state the fact the Jarred is the luckyest SOB in the world...

I'm jealous, but I think Jarred is well deserving of such a treat. The dvxuser community is awesome, and the dvxuser film fests helped get me onto a path of film making, as opposed to just thinking about film making.

Jarred, any thoughts on picking up the domain www.reduser.com?

~Ian
