Very Slow Import from P2 to FCP

Hey,

I'm importing HDX P2 footage from an external HD into FCP and it seems to take like 45min-1hr for each 8 gig card to import, which seems a little long. Most people have told me that they import in real-time. I have a lot of footage to deal with, so if there is a glitch in my settings which are causing the long import times, I would appreciate it if someone pointed them out. What might be the problem?

I am importing from an external firewire harddrive which has media that was copied from the P2 in the field. The external drive has a folder for each card with the "contents" folder and "Lastclip" file. I am importing them from this external HD just as I would from a P2 card. My capture scratch is an internal HD.

Thanks,

-Lance.

Any errors on the viewfinder?

Any errors on the viewfinder?

Is the message on the view finder still the happy little 1394 Device Connect or whatever it says? I had a similar problem myself, but when I rolled over to the view finder there was some error message in red on the screen. I cancelled the transfer, ejected the cards, shut the HVX off and started all over again. Next round through everything went on smooth as could be.

cheers.

I am having a similar problem but with a P2 store. I am transferring contents of P2 store to a FW 800 ext drive through a Mac PB 1.33 via USB. The specs say the PB has usb 2.0 but transferring a full 8 GB card takes an hour. Is the USB and FW 800 on the same bus. Is this normal?
