How do I get 60p or 60i

Hi,

Forgive me if this is a daft question, I just got my HVX camera on Friday, for some reason i can only get it to go to a maximum of 50 frames a second.

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but how do I get the camera to be cranked up to 60?

Basically because it's recording to the 720p50 codec, which limits the recording to 50 fps.
All other electronics are also tuned to the timing of 25/50 fps recording.

I assume the american model goes up to 60.

When I bought the camera (in the UK) these were the specs that were advertised:


Shooting formats (1080/60i, 1080/24p, 1080/30p, 720/60p, 720/24p, 720/30p, 480/60i, 480/24p, 480/30p)
Variable frame rates in 720p mode:
12, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 30, 32, 36, 48, 60fps
Does this mean that the PAL model is inferior?
 
If you rate the cameras by it's maximum frame rate in 720p, yes then the European HVX-200E is inferior.

If you rate it by the best possible picture quality when shooting in Europe, then the American HVX-200 is inferior as there is no 25p/50i PAL compatible recording mode.

p.s. Are there any other differences between the the US and european model?

Who advertised that? That's the NTSC version. PAL standard def isn't even 480; it's 576.
 
I bought the camera from creative video, I assume they had just stuck up Panasonics promotional garb without checking which camera it realated to. Still confused though, why would panasonic release a 60 frame model for one market but only a 50 frame for another?

In the US, the video standard is NTSC, which runs at 60i. In Europe it's PAL, which runs at 50i.
 
...And even though the camera could theoretically shoot 60 frames a seccond, there's no way to record 60 frames of information into the 50 frames of PAL video. It just doesn't fit!

true, but surely it would fit onto the p2 cards and then give you a better choice of slow mo in post (which would be put onto a 25fps timeline anyway)
