Hi,

I've shot a music video on the HVX and I am now thinking of buying one. Doing a search on the web I've found prices from around $3000 to 6000.

Has anyone bought from one of the lower priced sites? Of the low priced sites, the only one that I had heard of before was Broadway Video at around $4500.

What are some of the best places for price you guys have actually bought from? Good/Bad experience?

Thanks,

It's not worth trying to save a few bucks by going through those shady stores. They will either sell you a gray market camera with no warranty or hassle you to buy add ons. Not to mention the customer service will be absolutely horrible.

I would reccomend EVS or B & H. Special Comm also has a good price as well if you are planning on getting the cineporter. Stick with the authorized dealers.

What is gray market merchandise? Used? What are the benefits of buying from an authorized dealer that a low price vendor does not offer?

Thanks,

These are products not intended for US sales and do not carry a US warranty.

Authorized Panasonic dealers carry US Warranties and all packaged accessories.

If you are still leaning towards to cheaper internet places, punch those names into:

bizrate.com
resellerratings.com,

and you'll change your mind.

Search is your friend. Do a search and discover the truth about gray market dealers. Or, I invite you to call them, place your order, and let us know when you receive your $3000 HVX.

Thanks for all of the info. I checked out the reseller rating site. Wow!!! I agree, it's not worth it. As they say, "if it's too good to be true, ..."

If it's less than $5,000, don't touch it. It's that simple.

I know it's tempting to go with gray market but can you really afford to blow $4,000 grand if the thing is busted?

They'll advertise $4000 but by the time you buy the charger and the mandatory warranty you'll end up paying $5400 just like anywhere else.

I bought mine from Fletcher's in Chicago which is a great store to do business with. But alas, even Fletcher's tacks on some kind of extra fee for doing business out of state which ending up saving me about $50 from buying it from my local store (EVS).

By the way, the only reason I didn't buy from EVS is because they were on back order for over 2 months. We couldn't wait.

Hi,

Just bought mine today from full compass. Talked to Shawn and he gave me a great DVX user price. (No, not $3495, but trust me, after much research those prices are bogus!) Talked with me and answered many questions. Very polite and helpful. Says It'll be here within a week. I'm bettin' it will. Will Keep you posted.

I got my HVX from Shawn at Full Compass as well -- the camera arrived today.

Shawn even called me at home this morning to see if I had received the shipment yet; the guys with the brown trucks got it here one day later than anticipated.
