P2 Card not mounting to Powerbook-- need help fast.

Hi,

I'm trying to mount some P2 cards to a Powerbook via the PC card slot and nothing's coming up. Checked system profiler and the card is not registering. (we plan on using P2 Genie for on-set card offload)

Tech Specs: PB G4, 1.33 Ghz, OS 10.4.6, 1.5GB.

I'm at the end of a very short prep period right now and don't really have time to search and mess around-- any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Restart that puppy! I just had the same problem. A restart took care of it. On a similiar note, be careful with P2 genie. I just had to reshoot an 8g p2's worth of footage, because P2 genie said it was copying the footage to a folder on the hard drive, and when I looked there was nothing there, nothing on the drive at all resembling a p2 card's worth of footage. I say for now, copy your p2's manually.

doccutter, i have been having the same problem with p2 genie for some reason.
have you addressed this to anders?

I experienced the same issue mentioned here yesterday while shooting a short. Over the course of 10 card loads, I had to restart my computer 3 times in order for my Powerbook to recognize the P2 card. Also using P2 Genie (although all the footage did copy successfully).

Have there been any new developments on this thread? I haven't done a conclusive test to see if this is strictly related to P2 Genie... has anyone else?

If it is, barring Anders having come up with a bug fix, is there another program that does the same thing that can be used in the meantime?

I haven't used P2 Genie ever, and the P2 card not being recognized happens to me often enough to be annoying. Fortunately, my g4 laptop has a fast boot up time.

From My Experiences using a PBg4 and Those Dang P2 Cards is that you need to restart every couple cards for it to show up.

Bummer, this really puts P2 ingest from card to laptop in a bad spot in the mac world... unreliable slot on the PB G4 and no slot on the Mac Book Pro. I'm sure this has been uttered a million times and I'm only saying it out of frustation, but what in the world were Apple and Panasonic thinking???? It's not as if the product releases were a surprise to either.

Get a cheap PC laptop... just better for P2. Dump to the internal and a Fat32 external which will seemlessly work on a MAC... I have the beta of P2G for PC and it works flawlessly

ash =o)

Same problem here. I've tried setting up different user accounts to have a plain jane of a system as I could and that doesn't help either.
About every third or fourth time I have to reboot the PowerBook as the card either doesn't show up or the Mac locks up.
I'm running a 17" 1.67GHz PowerBook with OS 10.4.7
Never had an issue with P2 Genie not copying a card though.

Just an update on my situation-- downloaded the P2 driver and the PB G4 works fine. No mounting problems, no nothing. P2 Genie has worked without issue.

I'm quite sure the mounting problem isn't related to the P2 Genie. P2 Genie doesn't fiddle with the mounting procedures in the OS - it just reads the mounted drive every now and then, so I'm quite sure you all need to update the P2 driver.

Is there a new P2 driver update? I know there is n update for the P2 cards themselves but it's only for the PC. Haven't heard anything about a new driver update.

I'm having trouble navigating/downloading the P2 driver you've mentiioned to alleviate PB G4 issues Matt, and David.

I've been here:

https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/p2indexe.html

But I can't seem to get a download? I get a blank page (except for the site header and left navigation bar) when I click on 'GO'.
What am I missing? Do you need to register? If so, is this the registration page?

https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/

Which I can't get to accept my information... keeps saying 'please enter your name' or 'please enter your email'.... when I've already done both.

????

I downloaded the driver again and the Mac still locks up.
There was no indication that it was any different driver than what was previously installed.

Okay... so the download page is a Safari 2.0.3 issue. At least on my end. Was able to access the download just fine with Firefox. Now to use. I'll report my experience when I've done some tests.
