Thanks for the Bootcamp!

thanks for the kind words everyone.. I moved this to the public section because i keep getting PM's asking how people liked the bootcamp, so thought it would be cool to share.

Ill post some photos very soon from the event.

Thanks again to everyone for putting on such a great event. I know I learned a bunch and would recommend Bootcamp to anyone who can attend in the future.

Just to console everyone who wasn't there or doesn't have a bootcamp coming up in their area, I'd like to say that what I learned from the bootcamp was what a great resource DVXUser is. Of course, I learned things at the bootcamp, but one of the great feelings I had when it was over was an assurance of just how much I knew about the camera and using it. And that's all because I have compulsively trolled (not in a bad way) these board for the last eight months. If you can't get to a bootcamp, spend some time on these boards --- they really are great as are the people who contribute! Thanks all!

P.S.: The coolest thing I learned was "an old DP's trick" from Rush. When you're shooting any scene that's going to have dynamic audio and you're only using one mic, set both the left and right inputs to channel two. Then, plug the mic into input two and set the levels on the left channel a bit low and the levels on the right channel a bit high. Between the two of them, you should get good audio all through the scene --- both the quiet AND loud moments.

Great tip! You know I've heard that one before and totally forgot about it. Like an earlier poster said, trolling these boards is very helpful. Just in the past month I've picked up a ton of ideas. :-)

Thanks

Thanks

I for one was very disappointed... that Noah didn't look like his Avatar!

Seriously, great stuff, I thought my head was going to explode by the end of the day. Great demos on workflow. I seriously need to get a mac laptop instead of the P2 store.

thanks again,

Yeah, and Rush doesn't look like Stallone either. What's with that? I chose a Pug as my Avatar, not only because I own one, but because I look exactly like one (sad but true).

yeah.. but from what i hear Rush is a pretty deadly boxer.. probally could give Stallone a run for his money :)

There were a lot of great things about boot camp, but the thing that really stood out was the caliber of people attending. I am not talking the evident talent that was present, but that 30+ individuals showed up with thousands of dollars of gear each, and to my knowledge, nothing mishandled, lost, stolen, or broken (Except for Big Mike's chair).

Speakers and guests shared what they knew and fessed up when they didn't (which was seldom). I hope boot camp continues to be a success going forward.

BWAHAHAHAHA! I forgot about that! The "BigMike chair incident!" :nads:

I love ya, BigMike! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Ahhhh, but yeah . . . everyone was great. Trusworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, etc.

Bootcamp was an inspiring, info-packed one-day film school.
And as a new HVX owner, it was the most useful info I could imagine.

Thank you Jarred, Barry, Evin, Rush, and Noah for sharing your knowledge and wisdom!

It was great to meet other HVX people. Those of us in the L.A. area should hook up in the future.

Seeing David's (DC's) camera with the 7" Marshall on top, made me realize I've got to get that monitor. It's one thing to see pics of the monitor on the net, but to see how great the picture quality is live... it's a must have for feature work.

Also got to hold a Redrock M2 in my hands and see up close how well built that adapter is... thanks to Brian from Redrock for stopping by.

My favorite part was the screening of HVX footage... mind-blowingly great footage. Talk about inspiring... it was awesome! :)

Big Kudos to Jarred and Barry, et al. for making this happen. Well done!

DC,
You left out thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. Was there a merit badge somewhere in my "goodie bag?" I must have missed it.

Hey Evin,
Could you please tell us the model number of the Sony HD monitor you had hooked up to the Powerbook? That was a pretty good view for the money.

unfiltered, I finally added the site to my sig. Jeez that was a 3-day html nightmare...
