Horrors of War - trailer/scene

[quote author=sonnyboo link=board=Clips;num=1100063038;start=15#17 date=11/11/04 at 15:17:37]The WWII re-enactors are all historians and many of them are current military or former military.

I think the Zombie Nazi at the end was our first clue this is not about exact historical accuracy... it's escapist entertainment. The History Channel is not really interested...

Peter, I debated for a while in whether to bring up the issue of historical accuracy. I realized once I saw Hellboy in a Wehrmacht uniform that this movie wasn't taking itself too seriously. However, even in escapist entertainment, attention to detail in the subject (in this case - your WWII setting) helps brings the audience further into your story (even with Hellboy included). ;D

And I'll promise no more History Channel discussions. All my field manuals are now back up on the shelf. :-X

Sonnyboo I'm a big fan thanks for all the great links on your site. You have done a lot for the independant filmmaker. I have seen this trailer there before. Have you gotten it sold yet? Good luckwith your movie.

Nice looking film Sonnyboo, look forward to seeing it. What was your budget? Also did I hear the "Wilhelm Scream" in there???

A few things bugged me about it though, but I am a WWII geek. They soldiers didn't convince me as being very "elite." Some of the actions - hand signals etc. seemed staged for the camera instead of being natural. Also some of their tactics seemed a bit questionable. Maybe suggest that it isn't just a straight "serious" piece earlier in the trailer, then these things are not such an issue.

Also, it is great to shoot 35mm, but for me it seems to have limited you camerawork a little. The camera just felt slightly awkard, as if it was too heavy to really get what you wanted from the shots. Is that why you used 16mm too? It may have worked better to just sling around a DVX/XL2 and grade it up nicely. That would have also freed up some budget aswell.

The fireball at the start doesn't work. I would definitely change it and if not, just have the plane limp off and not crash. There is no real thick black smoke that burning fuel produces. Also, the soldiers don't seem to worry about the German fighter spotting them! That would be bad news! Maybe cut the German fighter. I know it took ages to model etc, but it's what is best for the film in the end. Just my opinion though.

Sorry... that makes it seem like I didn't like it. I did! It is great to see people being so ambitious and pulling it off so well. Let us know how things turn out!!!

Looks like Call of Duty the video game meets Nightmare the board game. I'd totally go see it. Do you find out Hitler is actually Dracula in the end?

We always get compared to "Wolfenstein", and Hitler was evil enough without science fiction

wow, now this looks like one hell of a movie! I'm seriously impressed. I'd love to attend the Columbus screening. I hope I can make it!

I've seen this a number of times and am still impressed, yet dismayed that it's done on Arris, not DVXs (of course it was very noticeable right away).

If it makes you feel better, my next feature is going to be on Panasonic Varicam.

: )

all of our behind the scenes are shot DVX100

We've also added a Youngstown screening on Saturday, April 15. Oz, our friend at the Western Reserve Film Commission is working with the Youngstown Economic Development to make the screening a red-carpet affair.

The screening will be held in the historic Edward W. Powers Auditorium, heralded as the "finest theatre ever built," when Warner Brothers opened it in 1931. It seats 2,200+ people. Wow. More info on the theatre is here:
