Barry or Jan - Can Someone Confirm the AF100 is now priced under $10k?

It's already overpriced at $6K.
The AF100 is basically the body of a $4-4500 camera, minus the lens assembly (one of the most costly hardware components), with the sensor from a sub-$1500 DSLR.

Go ahead, flame me all you want with rants about firmware and features and so on, but I simply cannot accept the idea of a price exceeding that of the HVX/HPX.

hvx was a msrp of 5999 if I am not mistaken, so it would be right in line with the hvx as a new product... of course, street price is different... (that, if it ends up with an msrp around 6 grand)

Then don't buy it.

I asked Jan to come in here and clarify. She did confirm for me that
NOTHING HAS CHANGED ABOUT THE PRICE, IT IS STILL AROUND $6K.

:D

Whoever started the $10k thing had no idea what he was talking about. Probably just trying to be safe; maybe he knew the price but didn't know whether that was public information or not, so he just pulled a number out of thin air to make sure his bases were covered, I don't know.

But Jan confirmed that what she said in April, about it being $6k, is still accurate.

Poor Jan... busy trying to bring us quality, affordable tools (and make some money for Panny in the process) and she has to deal with nonsense like this! Not to mention junk articles like the one about her contradicting herself (a poor perspective on the "facts") on EOSHD

Can you say that again Barry?

I didn't hear you.

:)

The AF100 sensor is a new sensor, it will not be the same sensor that is in the GH1 (which I assume is what you're implying).

Fair enough.
Personally, I'll probably wait until the camera actually exists in the real world before making up my mind.

Sorry -- been away for two days, and it looks like everywhere I turn, people are panicking or overreacting to what some rumor site says, or some suit at a road show who doesn't have the facts.

When did everyone get so flighty?

And why do people read rumor sites where the folks who write the rumors clearly don't have any clue what they're saying, they're clearly just making stuff up to make themselves sound important... and then people bring that stuff over here and spread it around like it's actually credible.

Sigh.

Because it sells newspapers.
Yes, you're probably right.

But doesn't it bother people that they're being manipulated by little boys who sit in their bedrooms in their parents' houses, typing away on the Internet like they're some authority figure, when the only link to credibility they have is that they can use blog software to make themselves look "official"?

Sheesh, folks, just say no. Put down the rumor sites, and walk away. And if you HAVE to indulge, please don't go spreading that stuff around here, okay? These rumor sites and misinformed blogs are nothing more credible than the National Enquirer, fer cryin' out loud.

David, at least you had the restraint to ASK for an update, rather than just grabbing whatever the latest rumor or mistake is, and running with it, like it seems a lot of folks seem to be doing.

Where you've been?

Africa testing the new prototype?
No, not Africa, but things have been a bit busier -- my latest project I'm working on is on the cover of Popular Mechanics this month... it takes place a bit further away than Africa... :D

Add to that a purpose built DSP that will have been designed specifically for this camera, that will go way beyond what the DSLR can achieve.

Just perfect ;-)

Don't worry 'cause others are dumbfounded when mixed up with who could be their own children :)

I dont think its the rumor site that said anything about the 10k.. its the suit from a roadshow.
anyway i told myself to stop replying and reading the posts from that thread and wait for the official announcement somewhere in oct or november before bringing out my pitchfork (or wallet) :D
