When zooming out from a tight shot I find that the zoom has a little 'jump' to it before it stabilizes and smoothes out. Does anyone else experience this?

This backlash happens when you reverse the zoom motor. After zooming out, zoom in just a little, now when resume your zoom in, you won't experience this jump. Same goes for the other way around.

I have the ZOE zoom controller and it bypasses that little jump. I don't get it at all if I am using the zoom controller.
