Zooming problems?!?!?!?!

ok, I think something must be wrong with my zoom....no matter how hard i press on the zoom button above the record button (not on handle) it seems like its slowly creeping. It starts off fast then its like something is blocking the zooming wheel and slows down incredibly. Is dust or something hindering the wheel from going faster or what? THe 3rd zooming switch speed also is slow on the handle....what could be wrong? thanks in advance

We have had that happen to us on many occasions when working on our customers units. Sand/dirt gets lodged in the CAM mechanism that pushes the lens back and forth. The lens assembly needs to be torn down and cleaned. It's involved but not impossible.

Jlucan, when you switch off the servo motor, and goto manual zoom mode, do you feel resistance or grinding when you roll the zoom ring around?

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!! I tried to force it to go faster in manual zoom because I thought maybe I could clear what was in there. Do I need to send it in?

The lubricant that's on those tracks almost act like a glue for dirt particles. Canned air really wouldn't be able to get it out. You're going to need someone to take a look at it.

Jlucan, if you are not comfortable working on the camera yourself, you will have to send it in. Someone will have to pop open the front, remove the focus then zoom ring, and clean and re-lube that area. $150. It is a very simple procedure, and I have done it in 15 minutes, so don't let someone talk you into higher costs or additional repairs. :)

We can have it done in an hour of labor which is $85.00 + shipping and we're Authorized.
