Zoom vs prime

Trying to figure out if i want to get a 85mm or 135mm prime (1.8, 2.0 or 2.8) or 80-200mm f4. The 80-200 is cheaper but slower, but i do most of my shooting (95%) in the daylight so f4 should be okay.

Any advice?

yeah... get 85 1.4 or 135 2.0, you will be please how good it is. zoom is darker, softer and despite your shooting mostly in daylight, f4? imho wasting money, as selling f4 zoom lens is not an easy task.

people talk up the nikon(and other similar) 80-200 f4 as the sharpest zoom made for nikons thats manual, thoughts?

and would you recommend an 85 or a 135? id probably only have about 150 to spend and i might just get an extender tube for my 50 to make it 100. then maybe an 85 so i could extent to 170? thats with a 2x extender.

Yeah, i dont have 500 bucks to drop on the 1.4 id prob go for a 1.8 or 2.

what do you think about extender tubes? specifically 2x?

Although, the cheapest 1.8 i can find is about 180, out of my price range. I really cant find an 85 for under 200 bucks otherwise. i can find some really cheap 135 2.8 for 100 bucks...

Yeah, i dont even have that 150 yet waiting to sell some stuff.

extender tubes anyone?

You might also keep an eye out for a 105mm 2.5 Nikon prime. Very nice as well. I think F4 is a bit slow and might reduce some of the shallow DOF effect a prime would bring.
