HPX250: Zoom slack

Anyone know if the zoom slack issue is still an issue with this camera? I heard it has a "real lens" so I am assuming we can get nice creeps as if it was a real lens - none of that hvx 200 BS

Well, I'm doing the 1st things with it - as a brand new HPX250 owner - and I was just wondering why the zoom servo doesn't start smooth! I can not use that, for example in a interview if I want to do a subtle correction...

BUT

I need to read the manual and watch all the settings first - before this is going to be a serious complain for improvement :-)

I asked Christian Richardson from Varizoom this same question. Here is his reply:

This type of issue is noticeable on controls that utilize stereo pin connectors. You see the 8pin and 12pin control systems have a direct interface with the lens, and split each control function to a different pin. This gives them more freedom for a refined control.

LANC and Panasonic zoom protocols, due to the fact they use stereo pin connectors, have a limited interface with the camera, and don't have a direct line to the lens systems. You will find that these controls can carry a small "jump" at the beginning and end of the zoom. The reason for this, is because those levels are what are set to occur when the camera first begins taking a signal for that function.

Unfortunately, that means this issue can not be fixed on our end. We can attempt to make the process less noticeable by riding the line very close, but you will never have a point where the jump is complete abolished like on the 8pin and 12pin systems. This is a limitation of the remote system as installed by Panasonic,

Sorry I don't have better news.

Thanks for the explanation from Varizoom. I guess just one more thing the EX1 has over the HPX250, better zoom control of the lens.
