Zoom ring and other stupid Questions

I have two dumb questions. I tried to do a search but nothing came up so, here I go.

The zoom ring. How do I manually zoom? Is it just as easy as setting the zoom to manual? There is a little handle on the ring but I am afraid to use it for fear of breaking the zoom motor.

Also. When I bought the camrea, it came with two lens cleaning cloths. One silky black one and another somewhat rougher white one. Is there a procedure to cleaning the lens? I have ofcourse protected the lens with a uv filter but I may have to clean the lens at one point. I've read the different opinions on lens cleaning. I just want to know what the two different cloths are for.

Oh yeah and there is this clunking when the camera is in VCR mode. Is my DVX broken? :p Just joking. I've already been burned on that one.
 
Just as you thought...when in manual zoom, you can turn the zoom by hand. By that little handle thingie (it unscrews easily and will hide under the couch if you drop it.)

As to cleaning...I haven't yet, so I can't say. Except the silky black cloth sounds like the one you want.
