Yes it will be slower on the telephoto end, just like all cameras are (the XL2, for example, goes from 1.6 on the wide end to something like f/3.4 on the tele).
The DVX equivalent is 32.5-325mm.
The focal equivalent listed for the HVX is not correct, it's wider than 32.5. It should be more like 30mm-395mm. The focal-length equivalent they're referencing up there (32.5-423) was back before the lens zoom range changed; originally the HVX was supposed to be 4.5mm-58.5mm, and that would yield a 32.5-423 equivalence. Now the HVX is 4.2-55mm, and that yields 30-395 equivalence.
So on the telephoto end it will be only slightly more than the DVX100a? Also I do not believe my Sony DSR300 lense looses a stop when zoomed in all the way. If so it is certainly not noticeable. I was hoping that the new lense on the HVX200 would have enough zoom on the tele end to frame a similar shot as my DSR300 at full zoom. The DVX100a does not have quite enough tele for some of my shots.
There are lenses that maintain a constant t-stop throughout the zoom range, and then there are lenses that don't. All these prosumer cameras lose f-stops over the course of the zoom. The HD100 does as well, even though it's not labeled as such.
